Job Summary:The Manager of Accounting & Reporting is responsible for overseeing the monthly closing process ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and managing the Financial Reporting team. This role includes maintaining the integrity of financial reporting processes managing internal and external reporting requirements and supervising the development and mentoring of staff. The position works closely with executive management to provide actionable financial analysis and supports the Director of Accounting with external reporting duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monthly Closing Process Management: Coordinate and oversee the monthly financial close process ensuring accuracy quality control and timely completion. Review all journal entries including recurring and nonrecurring entries to confirm proper documentation and recording.
  • Report Preparation & Distribution: Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and distribution of financial statements (income statement balance sheet statement of cash flow) in accordance with internal and external requirements.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead the Financial Reporting team managing employee performance development and mentoring. Ensure quality control and crosstraining to mitigate risk and increase team efficiency.
  • Compliance & Quality Control: Maintain the integrity of the financial reporting process ensuring compliance with accounting policies and effective internal controls.
  • External Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors distributing schedules and managing communication effectively across the organization.
  • Variance Analysis & Reporting: Perform detailed variance analysis of financial performance providing actionable insights to executive leadership.
  • Internal Reporting: Prepare and support internal reporting requirements working closely with the Director of Accounting to create monthly reporting packets for management.
  • Estimate Calculations: Oversee the calculation of key management estimates including medical accruals and legal/environmental claims in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Quarterly & Annual SEC Filings: Assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual SEC filings as needed supporting staff in the creation of workpapers for regulatory filings.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:Directly supervise up to five 5 nonsupervisory employees within the Financial Reporting team.
Requirements
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field.
    • Minimum of five 5 years of experience in accounting auditing or financial reporting with at least some experience in all areas of accounting.
    • Supervisory experience is required.
    • CPA preferred but not required.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and applicable FASB standards.
  • Familiarity with SEC filing requirements and financial regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Word PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and lead a team effectively.
  • Experience with ERP systems and Business Warehouse tools (preferred).
  • Familiarity with HFM and Oracle EBS (preferred).
