The Student Union of San Jose State University is 501(c) 3 nonprofit auxiliary that maintains two major facilities at San Jos State University in downtown San Jos California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building the Provident Credit Union Event Center and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority faculty and administrators.

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the IT Specialists the IT Technician will provide general computer/help desk support to users within the Student Union Inc via phone remote and/or inperson. Accomplishing this by installing supporting and maintaining computer workstations and systems.
Essential Functions and Tasks
- Provide prompt help desk support; train and assist users with the use of computer peripherals and installed software operation
- Using Qualys identify security vulnerabilities implement corrective actions and perform vulnerability preventative maintenance on computers
- Install maintain troubleshoot resolve and upgrade workstation hardware desktop operating systems issues and applications include but are not limited to Windows 10 Windows 11 macOS and Microsoft Office.
- Troubleshoot both wired and wireless network connectivity and networkbased systems (printers biometric hand scanners etc.
- Assist in the administration troubleshooting and maintenance of the IT based business systems; including but not limited to: Web servers Windows firewalls switches networked print servers and printers and user accounts
- Monitor and maintain campus IT provided enterprise solutions: Qualys Sophos Central Jamf and Intune
- Maintain system documentation and inventory records including maintenance records parts inventory system layouts physical diagrams and software license record

- Ability to work with a variety of people
- Must be able to communicate orally and/or in writing to potential novice users in a manner that is diplomatic and understandable
- Ability to support and perform basic troubleshooting of operating systems and user applications. This includes but is not limited to Windows 10 Windows 11 macOS and Microsoft Office.
- Understanding the basic principles of networking and system administration
- Ability to troubleshoot computer systems attached to a Microsoft domain environment
- Ability to install configure and test computer and printing equipment
Minimum Qualification and Specifications
- 6 months to 2 years experience with Microsoft and Applebased computer systems and/or related certificates; Qualys Sophos Central Jamf and Intune experience is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP IT and physical security system backup along with disaster recovery procedures and troubleshooting of desktop operating systems.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

The position works in an indoor recreation facility programoriented environment.

Minimum Hourly Salary: $20.00 Maximum Hourly Salary: $22.75
This position is nonexempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.
In general the position works a schedule based on business needs and requires early morningevening and weekend work.
When school is in session student assistant may work up to but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).
When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) student assistant may work up to but not in excess of 40 hours per week.

Background Check and Fingerprinting
Student Union employees are required to undergo and completed a successful background check that includes verification of employment and education as well as a check of criminal records for employment. Candidates for positions where the employee will come in regular contact with minors and cash management will be required to be fingerprinted. This policy includes emergency hires and may also be applicable to volunteers depending on the work they will be doing.
In some cases the background check will include a credit check and/or a Department of Motor Vehicles check as well as a check ofl icenses and certificates when applicable. All background checks are conducted through the Student Union thirdparty vendor Accurate Background.
