Responsibilities
Athletics will appoint a qualified professional and leader to serve as the Senior Director of Athletic Training Services and Athletics Health Care Administrator. This position which will have a dual reporting line to the Director of Sports Medicine and Chief Safety Officer and the Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer will include the following responsibilities: Specific Roles and Responsibilities With the Director of Sports Medicine and Chief Safety Officer manage and supervise the athletic training staff. Oversee the care prevention evaluation treatment rehabilitation and education of injuries illnesses and mental health for all studentathletes. Oversee the development implementation and management of all Athletic Department health and safety protocols policies and processes in collaboration with the Director of Sports Medicine and Chief Safety Officer and in accordance with NCAA NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook) Conference Interassociation Recommendations and Institutional requirements. Serve as Athletics Health Care Administrator and fulfill the NCAA AHCA responsibilities as outlined in the NCAA AHCA Handbook found here Ensure that all aspects of the NCAA AHCA checklist are fulfilled as detailed here Establish a structure that supports the delivery of independent medical care for StudentAthletes: Develop and maintain emergency action plans for all permanent and temporary practice and competition venues in accordance with university risk management guidelines NCAA and Interassociation recommendations. Work with the Director of Sports Medicine and Chief Safety Officer to ensure appropriate medical coverage and supervision of the varsity athletic teams and spirit squads where appropriate. Liaison with Athletic Department Personnel to ensure needed resources to meet responsibilities are achieved that they are following department conference and NCAA rules and regulations and that they can support Athletic Department in current issues. Attend appropriate meetings as assigned. Serve as a member of the HighPerformance Leadership Team. Chair Athletics Drug Education and Testing Program Committee and ensure policies and protocols are implemented and followed. Coordinate and manage the athletic training facilities budgets equipment supplies and policies to maintain optimal health safety and welfare of all constituents. Represent the Athletic Department on NCAA Conference U of U Sports Medicine Board and other medical advisory groups as opportunities arise and as appropriate. In collaboration with the Sports Medicine Liaison annually review and revise when necessary medical consultant list including all emergency department cardiology dental vision and all other subspeciality groups. Work and regularly meet with the University Medical Billing Department and the Athletic Training Manager for Administrative Services on reviewing medical billing reimbursement. Develop and facilitate education for Athletic Department administrators coaches support staff health care providers and studentathletes concerning policies and procedure related to the health care of studentathletes. Assist the Director of Sports Medicine and Chief Safety Officer in an annual evaluation of the medical services area utilizing feedback from team support staff coaches and studentathletes. Attend Conferences and other Sports Medicine meetings when requested. Assist in the coordination and agenda development of monthly Sports Medicine team meetings with team physicians athletic training staff and other highperformance directors when necessary as a forum for discussion and management of pertinent issues. Board Member of Athletic Department Sports Science Panel. Assist in determining what studies will be implemented. Communicate research opportunities with staff and studentathletes. Minimum Qualifications
Must be a certified Athletic Trainer Physical Therapist Nurse Practitioner or Physician with at least seven years experience working in a highperformance environment and in a leadership role. Additional education management and leadership training or certification in the areas of Sports Medicine or Orthopedics and Business Administration. If an Athletic Trainer must be certified and in good standing with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer and licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the State of Utah. Minimum of seven years of experience as an Athletic Trainer working with elite level athletes and masters degree in business or healthcare administration or applicable experience. If a Physical Therapist must be licensed to practice in the State of Utah and be certified as either a Sports Clinical Specialist SCS or Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist OCS or meet the athletic trainer qualifications listed above or applicable experience. If a Physician Assistant must be licensed to practice in the State of Utah and have a Certificate of Added Qualification CAQ in Orthopedics or completed a Sports Medicine Fellows or meet the athletic trainer qualifications listed above or applicable experience. If a Nurse Practitioner must be licensed to practice in the state of Utah and be a certified Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner ONP C) or completed a Sports Medicine Fellows or meet the athletic trainer qualifications listed above or applicable experience. Experience developing and implementing health wellness and performance policies and procedures that align with NCAA Conference and Institutional requirements and expectations. Skills Strong communication skills both written and verbal. Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking skills. Ability to lead inspire and work in a collaborative manner.
