Job Description

Overview of the Position: The Assistant Principal (AP) reports directly to the Principal assists in and is an integral part of the development and continuity of a harmonious and effective administrative team. Through role modeling and accountability the AP helps the Principal in daily management of the campus. They primarily oversee student affairs: student discipline attendance scheduling and student activities to ensure that a safe and productive learning process is available to all students. Maintaining an educationally conducive and safe atmosphere within the school is essential for student learning and a critical role of the AP. The AP is also charged with promoting the positive aspects of student behavior and the positive image of the school.Certification/License Required:Assistant Principal/Principal Licensed 912 Vocational licensure preferred.Potential Responsibilities Include: Responsible for all aspects of student discipline including conducting thorough investigations assessing evidence determining infractions implementing logical consequences (including development maintenance and implementation of an Alternative Services Plan) communicating with parents authorities school staff/administration and planning for effective reengagement of students into the learning process (in compliance with State and Federal law and local policies).Responsible for all aspects of student supervision (including extracurricular activities and events).Responsible for all components of student attendance (in compliance with State and Federal law and local policies).Responsible for schoolwide safety including coordination and development of emergency plans liaison with law enforcement fire department Northampton Prevention Coalition and the District Attorneys Office.Responsible for overseeing and verifying student data entry and reporting to the DESE.Responsible for all student activities.Responsible for annually assessing the effectiveness of all student groups and organizations that are supported by a contracted stipend.Responsible for all components of the scheduling process.Responsible for supporting the safe transportation of students to and from school.Responsible for the annual review and revision of the Student Informational Handbook for submission to the Principal and the School Council. May be responsible for running the school in the Principals absence.Documents and investigates complaints of bullying theft Title IX etc. as required.Must be trained in mediation and conflict resolution.Will oversee substitute teachers.Responsible to oversee McKinney/Vento students and coordination of services transportation Coordination with Foster Care and/or other care facilities.Assists in the selection organization coordination and evaluation of all staff as directed by the Principal.Assists in the planning implementation and evaluation of vocational and academic programs.Assists and works with the Athletic Director to ensure discipline and security to all home athletic events.Attends afterschool/evening meetings student banquets awards graduation school council advisory committee and other relevant functions as required by the Principal or Superintendent/Director.Works with School Counselors School Adjustment Counselors and the Student Services Director to assist students in need of services.Provides monthly reports to the administrative team on discipline and attendance.Coordinates Building Base Support programs and process for all student issues (behavioral attendance academic etc..Responsible for Restraint Policy Training and coordination (with Curriculum Director) of staff restraint training.Work collaboratively with other administrators maintaining the mission of the school and maintaining progress in reaching the schools improvement plan goals.Additional administrative duties as assigned by the Principal. WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day however there may be occasions for afterschool meetings (ex: Back to School Night). WORKDAY:The workday is 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Work year is 209 days as per Unit H contract Group A.The salary range is based on the Unit H Contract Group A and placement on the salary scale by the Principal is determined by relevant work experience.
