Job Description

The individual in this position will be responsible for assisting faculty in the Institute for Technology Assessment (ITA) in conducting cancer outcomes research. The cancer research conducted at the ITA is highly quantitative principally involving computer simulation models of cancer development screening and treatment in various populations. The Research Associate will be involved in all aspects of the investigators cancer outcomes research including data extraction and collection from patient databases developing and running computer simulation models conducting literature reviews assisting investigators will regulatory compliance (i.e. from the Institutional Review Board) and manuscript preparation and submission.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary anticipated responsibilities include: Data collection and management; Statistical analyses; Literature review; Contributing to computer simulation modeling efforts (developing and running computer models) The opportunity exists to participate in scientific manuscript preparation and writing. Support of manuscript preparation (e.g. communications with coauthors Table/Figure development) is expected.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • A strong interest in medicine or medical research as a career.
  • A strong interest in participating in clinical medical research.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel some familiarity with statistical and or database management software.
  • Willingness to learn and work with computerbased simulation models.
  • An ability to perform medical literature searches.
  • Strong database management skills for data extraction from national or local patient databases.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to interact with physicians patients and researchers.
  • Strong work ethic excellent organization skills and meticulous attention to detail.
