Job Description
Machinist 2nd or 3rd shift) Komo Vertical Mill Harrison OH (Job ID:
Position Summary and Purpose: Set up and operate Komo vertical mills as well as drill tap slot and bore bars to perform such machining operations as reaming milling drilling and boring and tapping. Select set calibrate and secure tools in tool holders to perform metal cutting operations.
Second shift starts at 2:30; 3:30; or 4:30pm (optional year round) Third shift starts at 10pm; 11pm; or 12am (optional year round).
Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL:
- Receive work assignment; secure drawings setup sketch programs and tool list
- Use crane and lifting devices to place workpiece on machine table rotary table auxiliary table floor plate and/or setup fixtures making close measurements at multiple locations to level and align work. (may be difficult at times due to irregular shape of part)
- Install program and appropriate tools. After engaging power adjust coolant and observe entire operation checking dimensions and adjusting as needed.
- Report program errors or malfunctions edit programs as needed
- Set and utilize instruments to check tool settings for proper cutting dimensions adjust settings as necessary.
- Continually check fixtures and holding devices for setups to assure proper working conditions. Store tools and maintain necessary tool records.
- Perform simple layout work when required using templates or by calculations measuring and marking surfaces for machining
- Perform very close machining operations such as drilling boring reaming facing milling on parts such as shear housing tables rams holddown beams beds brake housings rams beds etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and perform all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established quality procedures
Education and Experience:
REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or certificate of equivalency
- 2 years prior machining center experience
Valued But Not Required:
- Technical school certificate or degree
- Programming skills
Knowledge Skills Abilities Characteristics etc.
REQUIRED:
- Ability to read and interpret prints with GD&T
- Ability to edit programs
- Excellent math skills
- Attention to detail
- Commitment to company Core Values

- Programming experience
Tools Technology and Equipment Used: CNC Machining Center rotary table remote overhead crane and hoist various cutting tools clamps fixtures lifters tooling tool setting instruments micrometers gauges and measuring tools
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand. This position is active and requires standing walking bending kneeling stooping crouching crawling reaching with hands and arms and climbing ladders. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls and to climb or balance. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. The employee must regularly lift move and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
