About the role

This is a newly created Head Brewer role at an exciting moment in the Heaps Normal journey. As our first inhouse brewing hire youll take the reins on everything beer from managing our existing network of contract partners to helping bring our future brewery to life.

Reporting to the Chief Product Officer as part of the Product & Innovation team youll oversee the technical brewing function across our entire range. Youll ensure our beer remains consistently high quality manage recipe development and innovation and act as the key bridge between product vision and production reality.

This role will evolve as we grow with early priorities focused on managing and optimising our contract brewing relationships building strong QA processes and laying the groundwork for our first Heaps Normal brewery. This is a fulltime onsite role based at our HQ in Marrickville NSW / Eora.

The responsibilities

  • Oversee all technical brewing and production operations across our nonalcoholic beer range working closely with our network of contract brewing partners
  • Manage endtoend production planning and scheduling to ensure quality consistency and timely delivery
  • Lead recipe development process improvements and technical documentation across all products
  • Build and maintain robust QA/QC systems including lab testing sensory evaluation and supplier quality management
  • Maintain accurate production reporting and use insights to drive continuous improvement
  • Act as a key technical resource across the business by supporting internal team education customerfacing training and product knowledge sharing
  • Monitor raw material performance and ensure alignment with specs across brewing and packaging
  • Lead the technical planning for our future brewery including equipment selection process design and building out the brewing and production team
  • Represent Heaps Normal in supplier relationships tastings and industry events as needed

About you

Youre a highly skilled brewer with a passion for great beer and youre just as comfortable managing production spreadsheets as you are tastetesting in the tank farm. Youve worked across a range of brewing systems and are ready to take ownership of the technical brewing function in a fastgrowing purposedriven business.

Youre comfortable operating in ambiguity love building things from scratch and bring a collaborative rollupyoursleeves energy to your work.

  • 5 years of commercial brewing experience including experience managing contract or distributed brewing
  • Formal brewing qualifications (e.g. Diploma in Brewing or equivalent practical experience)
  • Deep technical brewing knowledge across recipe design process control sensory QA/QC and scaling production
  • Experience working across multiple brewery sites or thirdparty producers
  • Strong project management skills and experience collaborating with crossfunctional teams
  • Clear communicator with the ability to work with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
  • Solutionsfocused calm under pressure and energised by growing something new
  • A current forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Bonus: experience with nonalcoholic brewing techniques or lowalc innovation is highly regarded but not essential. A keen interest in it however is!
