Job Description

Overview:

  • Fulltime Fixed term position available for 1 year (Project Based)

  • Salary Academic Level A $94517 $105323 p.a. 17 Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

Are you passionate about driving scientific innovation in sustainable energy technologies Join RMITs School of Science as a Research Assistant on an exciting project focused on Room Temperature High Energy Density SodiumSulfur Batteries.

About the Role

This newly funded project aims to explore sulfur redox reaction mechanism through the combination of cuttingedge in situ experiments and computational investigations. Knowledge outcomes will inform the rational design and optimisation of the electrocatalysts to solve the sodium polysulphides (NaPSs) shuttle effect relieve the sluggish reaction kinetics and even out the plating and stripping at the Na metal anode to eliminate the formation of Na metal dendrites.

The project aims to boost room temperature sodium sulfur batteries with low cost and high energy density based on the insight understanding of the structure (atomic and electronic levels) performance relationship between sodium polysulfides electrolytes and electrocatalysts which is a critical but rarely understood in developing a broader family of sulfur redox reaction electrocatalysts. The mechanisms discovered and electrocatalytic materials rationally designed in this project will advance knowledge in fundamental science and engineering to strengthen national research capacity.

To be successful in this position youll have:

  • Evidence of research output including publications conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.

  • Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.

  • Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues project team leaders and industry partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.

  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills.

Qualifications:
