Job Description

This is a remote position.

  • Greet and assist veteran clients via phone email and in-person.
  • Maintain clear confidential and compassionate communication channels.
  • Organise hard-copy and digital case files; manage version control.
  • Draft format proofread and finalise legal correspondence briefs and claim forms.
  • Assist with court or DVA lodgements ensuring adherence to deadlines.
  • Perform background research on DVA policies precedents and supporting regulations.
  • Transcribe type and proofread documents; assist with invoices and internal billing tracking.
  • Support scheduling of appointments client interviews occupational assessments and hearings.
  • Maintain attorney calendars track critical timelines and coordinate travel or meetings.
  • Manage incoming calls and emails; direct inquiries to appropriate team members.
  • Assist with day-to-day office operations to maintain a smooth supportive environment.


Requirements

  • Diploma or Certificate in Legal Studies Legal Assistant Paralegal or related fields (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Minimum 1 2 years experience in a legal or administrative role experience in veterans advocacy or DVA context is a plus.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office legal document software and electronic filing systems.
  • Discretion confidentiality and professionalism in client interactions.
  • Ability to multitask prioritise and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Currently studying or have completed a Law degree (or equivalent). Knowledge of legal and social issues across a broad range of jurisdictions. Strong organisational, administrative, and communication skills. Excellent written and computer skills, including word processing. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Able to listen attentively and respond with sensitivity and accuracy. Self-motivated, resourceful, and effective in time management. Previous volunteer experience with community legal services highly regarded.
