Job Description
PAYROLL AND BENEFITS SPECIALIST St. Basil Catholic Education Cent re

We are accepting applications for a continuous 35.0 hr per week Payroll and Benefits Specialist at St. Basil Catholic Education Centre in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence May 1 2025. Holy Spirit Catholic School Division serves the communities of Lethbridge Taber Bow Island Coaldale Picture Butte and Pincher Creek. There are 16 schools in the division (elementary junior high and high school). The school division has approximately 675 employees. Holy Spirit Catholic School Division offers a competitive salary flexible work schedule and excellent benefits package. This is an out of scope position.
Reporting to the Director of Finance the successful individual works full time hours Monday to Friday. Occasional overtime is required.
An individual assigned to this position is responsible for:
- Monthly processing of payroll;
- Manage confidential personnel files and records related to payroll;
- Administering processing and maintaining the employee benefit programs including the Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan (ASEBP);
- Process reporting for the Local Authorities Pension Plan and the Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund;
- Work closely with Human Resources processing new hires changes and terminations and preparing reports as required for month end and year end;
- First line of contact for employees for all benefit inquiries;
- Reconciliation of payroll accounts benefits and pension statements;
- Support the Payroll Coordinator in the preparation of T4s and related reporting;
- Complete terminations and changes of benefits for ASEBP;
- Perform necessary administrative duties as required;
- Other duties assigned from time to time by the Director of Finance.
Qualifications :
- Related postsecondary training in the area of payroll pension and benefits;
- Thorough knowledge of employee pension and benefits plans;
- Thorough knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards;
- Knowledge of other applicable government legislation;
- Exceptional technical skills;
- Exceptional organizational skills with a natural ability to work independently be selfdirected and willing to take initiative;
- Ability to treat confidential information with appropriate discretion;
- Exceptional attention to detail;
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with deadlines;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking skills;
- Professionalism in communicating with school and central office personnel;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment;
- Ability to work under pressure and with deadlines;
- Strong commitment and dedication to Catholic Education.
