Job Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the VirginiaMaryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) is seeking a fulltime emergency veterinarian. This position is a Clinical Instructor appointment with expectations of clinical teaching and primary case responsibility as well as a limited amount of classroom and laboratory instruction.
The Emergency & Critical Care Service (ECC) is a rapidly growing service at the VMCVM with three criticalists (a fourth criticalist position is open and actively being filled) four emergency veterinarians and seven rotating interns with support by a highly experienced qualified team of veterinary technicians. The VMCVM fosters a collaborative culture with opportunities to work with and learn from specialists in neurology internal medicine soft tissue and orthopedic surgery cardiology medical surgical and radiation oncology dermatology ophthalmology diagnostic imaging anesthesia and primary care.
The experienced emergency clinician in this role will be expected to oversee the clinical education of veterinary students and interns during their ECC rotations. Oversight of timely accurate triage and outpatient care for all cases arriving on emergency with primary case responsibility for 50 of cases that are presented dependent upon caseload and complexity. Inpatient care through oversight of interns collaboration with criticalists and occasionally primary care dependent on case load should be expected. Support from a criticalist is dependably available through consultation and comanagement of cases. Day and swing shifts are expected with occasional oncall/backup shifts to support interns during their overnight shifts.

Required Qualifications
DVM or equivalent foreign degree by appointment start date
Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by appointment start date
Experience in small animal emergency medicine and/or successful completion of a
small animal rotating internship by appointment start date
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal interactions
Commitment to diversity and inclusion
