Job Details
Fife Councils Legal Service is seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated solicitor to join the Regulation Legal Team in the delivery of efficient and effective legal service. The role offers a wide range of professionally interesting and diverse work and will complement and support the Team Manager four solicitors and two Lead Officers.
The Regulation Team provides comprehensive legal advice and assistance to the council in a wide range of legislative and statutory Local Authority functions such as planning and the environment licensing protective services education and safer communities.
The role will focus on providing the legal support to the council on planning related matters advising Planning Committees supporting the Planning Service in regulating planning applications enforcement and appeals and covering other functions within the remit of the Regulation Team when required.
You will support the team in the provision of general and intricate legal advice and assistance to the council its officials and elected members represent the council in committees courts tribunals and other external forums where appropriate.
This is an excellent opportunity to experience working for a local authority and combine an exciting and challenging role within a supportive team environment. Planning experience is desirable but not essential. Support will be available for anyone with the required skills to develop into this area of law.
As a progressive employer we offer a blended working arrangement with homeworking opportunities and occasional officeworking as required. Candidates will require to be able to travel to and attend office locations meetings court tribunal and other external forum appearances as required.
The Person
You must hold the skills and experience to support and thrive in a team environment with the ability to work with minimum supervision exercise judgment and initiative possessing excellent communication skills with a cando approach to help resolve problems.
You will have strong verbal and written communication abilities be committed to establishing strong client relationships and proactive in driving matters forward.
You should hold a Law Degree (LLB) and a Diploma in Legal Practice or an equivalent. You also should be a qualified solicitor holding or eligible to hold an unrestricted Practicing Certificate issued by the Law Society of Scotland be able to work under limited supervision with welldeveloped communication and IT skills.
