DEQ has an open opportunity for a Chemist II Technical Assistance and Compliance Specialist

It is fulltime 40 hours per week) withState Benefits.


The Chemist II Technical Assistance and Compliance Specialistposition will direct inspection of certificate holders facilities to assure that they conform to state and federal regulations including NC Laboratory Certification rules (i.e. 15A NCAC 02H .0800 US EPA Code of Federal Regulations and EPA and DEQmandated methodologies for each environmental parameter they report.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and direct inspection of assigned auditors assigned certificate holders facilities to ensure that NC DWR WW/GW LC rules and approved environmental analytical procedures are adhered to.
  • Conduct parameter method checklist documentation as appropriate.
  • Monitor state and federal regulations for changes in the law and analytical methodology.
  • Provide technical assistance to both internal and external clients concerning a wide range of analytical and regulatory issues.
  • Write and review items such as inspection checklists technical assistance documents and Approved Procedures and policy documents.
  • Review post inspection reports and the certificate holders responses to post inspection reports of supervised auditors and respond appropriately to ensure that data quality is within compliance.
The Division of Water Resources:
The Division of Water Resources mission is to protect the states water supplies and foster stewardship of this natural resource for use by current and future generations of citizens. The Division comprises six Sections: Water Quality Regional Operations; Water Sciences; Public Water Supply; Water Quality Permitting; Groundwater Animal and Coal Ash Operations; and Water Planning. This goal is achieved through providing technical assistance consultative services permitting of regulated entities certification of water treatment plant operators and wastewater operators inspection and compliance activities laboratory analysis and testing and educational outreach and training. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in chemistry from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive chemistry laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
