Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Backend Technical Director (TD) to join our team and help with the adoption of Universal Scene Description (USD) into our existing pipeline.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position with some work onsite and some workfromhome. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine CA. However we understand each persons circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options including remote work arrangements.
This is a 12month temporary position.
What You Bring to the Table
Priorities can often change in a fastpaced environment like ours so this role includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
This role will focus on updating and optimizing backend workflows ensuring that the integration of USD enhances our backends (FX Lighting Simulation) ability to create visually stunning animated cinematics. The successful candidate will collaborate with artists supervisors and technical teams to build efficient flexible and scalable workflows that align with production needs.

Minimum Requirements
Experience
Experience using and/or writing tools or plugins in thirdparty computer graphics programs and renderers such as Katana Houdini Nuke RenderMan and Redshift
Experience developing and working in a USD pipeline
Knowledge & Skills
Developing modifying deploying and debugging software
Strong problemsolving and debugging skills
Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
Understanding of computer graphics concepts such as rendering and shaders
Understanding of techniques and technologies relating to CG pipelines and workflows from asset creation to final compositing
Key Attributes
Ability to shift priorities during production schedule changes
Desire to function in a technical support role
Extra Points
Proficiency in Python and objectoriented programming
Experience working in Windows or Linux environments
Experience crafting tools in PyQt
Ability to teach guide and educate lighting artists methodically toward their own debugging to champion selfsufficiency in their own work
Provide practical feedback on the lighting pipeline and offer potential solutions on how to improve them
Bachelors or higher in Computer Science Computer Graphics Engineering or related fields
Familiarity with Blizzard games and Cinematics

These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately your specific range and offer will be based on several factors including relevant experience performance and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this roles range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates new hire compensation is negotiable.
