GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
Director of Finance is a member of the finance department leadership team and will assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in managing the financial operations of the AFSC. This position is responsible for accounting oversight of some areas of the finance function of the AFSC financial reporting and compliance activities ensuring that financial strategies align with the organizations mission and goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management:
- Actively participate in the development and management of the organizational budget including any reforecasting. Oversee the budget and reforecast process ensuring its alignment with organizational goals and providing guidance on financial planning and resource allocation.
- Analyze the organizations financial position and issues periodic financial and operation reports to CFO and other entities as needed. Analyzes consolidates and directs other statistical and routine reports including monthly quarterly and annual financial reports including analysis of variances to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with regional and central office staff to monitor financial results against budget and identifying explaining and resolving variances.
Accounting Oversight:
- Oversee accounts payable accounts receivable and payroll (postings).
- Work closely with CFO and other finance leadership to review and approve the balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with the monthend and yearend closing processes ensuring accurate financial reporting and timely completion of all necessary tasks.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations.
Audit and Compliance:
- Coordinate and support preparation of schedules reporting and supporting documents for the organizational annual external audits and other periodic audits working directly with auditors collaboratively to proactively address questions and documentation.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures; recommend improvements as necessary.
- Maintain uptodate knowledge of nonprofit financial regulations and best practices.
Grant Management:
- Participate in the central office grants management team for both US and IP programs and develop an indepth understanding of the different grants and their respective intricacies.
- Ensure AFSC financial participation is monitored and oversee indirect allocations and cost recovery of all grants monitor funding partners regulations on where AFSC can obtain cost recovery and advise.
- Provide timely support to the Grants team and assist in building a collaborative process.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise A/P staff providing training support and performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative and highperforming team environment.
- Represent the CFO in meetings and initiatives as needed ensuring continuity and progress in financial matters when the CFO is unavailable.
- Provide staff services to and participate in the functions of the following committees:
- Investment Committee
- Finance Committee
- Audit Committee
- Other committees related to the financial functions of the organization as may be required (e.g. Retirement Committee) and/or as they may be created.
- Attend meetings of the Management Team Program Consultative Group (PCG) fundraisers and others as requested.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with leadership to develop longterm financial strategies that support the organizations mission.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Preparation of reports for Stewardship Committee and Board of Directors as required.
- Present financial information in a clear and accessible manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelors degree in accounting required and CPA preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management with the majority in a nonprofit setting required.
- Commitment to Quaker values and testimonies. Understanding of and compatibility with the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including nonviolence the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual and the committee process.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles financial reporting and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in various ERP softwares. Microsoft 365 Business Central and added advantage.
- Proficient in Office 365 especially Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical problemsolving and organizational skills.

COMPENSATION
The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package. This position is Salary Family: Senior Leadership Job Code Department Director Minimum Starting Salary $100000 $125000.
