Hawthorne Community Center is seeking several talented Youth Program Assistants who are passionate about childcare in order to assist with our Youth Programs department where children from kindergarten through the 8th grade gather for before 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM) and after 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM) school activities.
As a Youth Program Assistant you will be engaging with children who are part of our program and help us foster an inspiring safe and educational environment where they can learn play and thrive.
This is an hourly parttime position of up to 25 hours per week with the option to work both morning and afternoon or only one consistently.
What will your day as a Youth Program Assistant look like
- You will be in charge of a group of up to 15 (for kindergarten and 1st grade groups) or 20 (for grades 2nd through 8th) children guiding them through the days activities of the before and after school programs.
- You will prepare materials and supplies in advance for all activities.
- You will help ensure that our equipment is safe that our standards of hygiene are being maintained that health and safety procedures are implemented at all times and that fire drills are regularly practiced.
- You will assist the Youth Management Team with creating longterm mediumterm and session curriculum as well as behavior plans.
- You will keep record of childrens progress and behavior ensuring the effectiveness of assessment procedures.
- You will keep parents informed of their childrens progress end behavior encouraging their involvement as well as keeping them engaged with Hawthornes activities.

These are the things we are looking for in our next Youth Program Assistant:
- Prior experience working with children or a natural affinity to work within childcare.
- Due to the requirements that come with working around children this position requires the ability to lift and carry items that may weigh up to 50lb. as well as standing bending climbing and/or crawling.
