Calvin University
Job Title:Project Neighborhood Mentor
Department:Residence Life
Reports To:Director of Housing & Operations
Status:Parttime Unpaid
SUMMARY
To foster the goals of Project Neighborhood through serving as a participantmentor in the life of the house and giving leadership through modeling mentoring and facilitating a house environment which is caring accountable shaped by prayer and biblical principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
1. Facilitate and encourage the active participation and ownership of the students in developing and living a common life together in which they relate to one another as image bearers of god bridge social and economic barriers and develop vision and capacity for service.
2. Facilitate the formation of participation in and reflection upon the community of the house including weekly house meetings and weekly bible studies.
3. Facilitate house meetings to determine responsibilities related to housekeeping meals property maintenance and neighbor relations.
4. Provide mentoring and discipleship avenues for residents.
5. Ensure the maintenance of the physical structure of the house in connection with the facility supervisor.
6. Develop positive personal relationships with neighbors and facilitate the students efforts in this regard.
7. Serve as representative of the university.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This person supervises and mentors 58 students living in this house.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires a Bachelors degree (B.A) from a fouryear college or university; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPECTATIONS
1. Live an authentic and transparent life as a follower of Jesus Christ before the students.
2. Participate fully in the life of the house.
3. Negotiate or agree with the students concerning specific ways that ones own gifts and experiences will contribute to the common life.
4. Live in the house in separate quarters without charge sharing food with other residents.
5. Meet on a regular basis with the mentor supervisor.
6. Attend mentor training in the month of August and plan a fall and spring retreat for the house.
7. Actively participate in the Project Neighborhood recruitment/selection process for residents.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Strong personal walk of faith in Christ and Ability to articulate that in the context of Project Neighborhood.
2. Ability to articulate and support Calvins mission and vision for reformed Christian higher education.
3. Ability to relate to a variety of students who are at different developmental levels and different places in their faith journey.
4. Demonstrated skill in mentoring and facilitating people in a group context.
5. Demonstrated lifeexperience that can be shared with house residents and be the basis of mentor relationships in the house. Urban living and/or ministry experience would be beneficial.
6. Must have a life situation that will lend itself to sharing space and time with students and live in the house as primary residence yearround.
