A credit analyst role involves assessing thecreditworthinessof an individual or company to determine the likelihood that they will honor their financial obligations. Credit analysts evaluate a borrowers past financial and credit history to determine their financial health and their ability to repay credit advanced to them by a lender. Typically credit analysts are employed bycredit rating agencies credit cardissuing companies commercial and investment banks and investment companies.
Responsibilities of a Credit Analyst:
Data Analysis:
Gather and review financial data such as income statements balance sheets and credit reports to assess the borrowers ability to repay debt.
Risk Assessment:
Evaluate the risk associated with extending credit considering factors like income debttoincome ratio credit history and payment behavior.
Recommendation:
Based on analysis provide recommendations on loan approvals credit limits and other lending decisions.
Reporting:
Document findings and present them in clear and concise reports.
Collaboration:
Work with other departments such as lending sales and operations to ensure consistent credit risk management practices.
Required Skills:
Analytical Skills:Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to interpret financial data.
Quantitative Skills:Proficiency in mathematics and statistics to perform financial modeling and risk analysis.
Communication Skills:Ability to clearly communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
ProblemSolving Skills:Ability to identify potential credit risks and develop solutions.
Attention to Detail:Rigorous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in analysis and reporting.
Industry Knowledge:Familiarity with financial institutions lending practices and credit risk management principles.
Required:
Bachelors degree in Business or related field or commensurate work experience
2 years of professional relevant work experience in accounting collections customer service or similar function
Moderate to Advanced Excel skills
Analytical aptitude
Good communication and organizational skills
High degree of detail orientation and professionalism
Able to work efficiently and effectively in a highly detailed role
Proven success in delivering results in a highgrowth environment
Strong computer skills in a Windowsbased environment and the ability to learn and utilize unique proprietary software programs.
