How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:
The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do:
- Leading of the Machining team ensuring that expectations are set and maintained across research & development recurring manufacture and toolmaking underpinning a quality cost and delivery mindset.
- Scheduling the team ensuring deliverables of the team are met on time and in full to execute on hardware manufacture aligned with tight deadlines through
- Ensuring that all machining ancillaries are present at the point of the machine requirement
- Effective communication internal to your direct team and external to key stakeholders
- Identification of constraints and subsequent management of those constraints to remove from the process.
- Manufacturing and modifying high quality components for use in an aerospace application
- Cost management of manufactured of products through analysis of tooling methods and durations
- Completing engineering requests that support the development and manufacture of jigs fixtures and specialised tooling ensuring tooling is always in compliance to industry standards
- Ensuring good manufacturing practice always applies whilst providing ongoing maintenance and organization of equipment
- Interfacing with external suppliers for special to product tooling required for manufacturing jobs
- Interfacing with the Manufacturing and Design Engineering teams to ensure manufacturing constraints are mitigated in the design process.
- Supporting other manufacturing tasks as dictated by the needs of the business
Mandatory Qualifications Skills and Experience:
- Level 3 Trade qualification
- 5 years of industry experience
- 2 years in a similar leadership role
- NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred
Desired Qualifications Skills and Experience:

- XTrade qualified Fitter and Turner or Toolmaker
- Experience in the leading of teams with varying skills levels Highly skilled tradespeoplethrough to apprentices
- Minimum of 5 years experience manufacturing precision components using lathes mills CNC machines and general workshop equipment
- Experience manufacturing components that require a high level of precision
- Experience using CAD software
- Demonstrated ability to work with engineering staff and effectively communicate design for manufacturing advice
- Demonstrated mechanical design skills and the ability to interpret innovative design ideas and adopt new engineering techniques
- Demonstrated ability to be a good team player and go above and beyond to meet schedule requirements
- Experience in manufacture of aerospace grade components
- Ability to manufacture small and large complex components
- Experience working with a range of materials preferred
- Operation of CNC machines that utilise FANUC and OSP controllers
- CAD/CAM experience with systems such as Solidworks MasterCAM and NX
- Enthusiasm for space related hardware and the industry in general
Supervision and Leadership
- Provide leadership motivation and direction in the day to day running of the machining team ensuring it is managed effectively by setting clear targets/KPIs and monitoring these in line with expectations
- To manage performance of the team ensuring that any shortfalls in performance are managed and reported to the Operations Manager
- To ensure all workers are inducted and operate to the companys policies/procedures including casuals contractors & visitors on site
- Ensure toolbox meetings are conducted in line with Gilmour Space requirements Minutes of meeting should be taken with items raised actioned in timely manner
- Ensure employees work in line with company policies and procedures
- To complete Performance Appraisals in line with Gilmour Space policy and procedures
