Stowmarket High Schoolhas an exciting future. We haveseen a yearonyear improvement in GCSE results but this forms just one piece of thejigsawand westriveto provide the best allround education for our young people. Our enriching curriculumseeksto give our students every access to knowledgeskillsand experiencestohelp them prepare for the futureand encourage them to be independent creativeconfidentand socially responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society. We are proud to be the town school and work to improve the life chances and opportunitiesfor all our students.
We are looking to appoint an inspirational Teacher of Music to ensure the excellent curriculum outcomes for our students. This is an opportunity for either an experienced well qualified teacher or an exceptional ECT with the possibility of an additional Teaching and Learning Responsibility for the right candidate.
The successful candidate should be aware that the school has had to reduce its teaching provision of music due to the shortage of music teachers available for employment. Consequently we have needed to put a break in our Key Stage 4 provision fromtoensure we have correct teaching coverage. The role from 2025/26 would be teaching Key stage three only with the reintroduction of Key Stage 4 teaching from 2026/27 which will coincide with the school expansion and a newly designed Music suite. We are passionate about a broad balanced curriculum at Stowmarket High as well as ensuring our students have a highquality provision.
The Music Department produces several impressive events each year and runs a range of ensembles including rock band choir singing ensemble and orchestra. A team of visiting teachers provide lessons on piano violin brass singing guitar bass guitar and drum kit. It has a wellresourced music room where all students have access to keyboards and Apple Mac computers running GarageBand. The course for KS3 encompasses listening performance and composition and has been in place for a number of years and all pupils achieve a high level of skill. Similarly the course at KS4 is equally successful when taught. The department is supported at events by a keen pupilled team and there is a real sense of pupil involvement.
