1.0 FTE Mathematics Teacher Start Date: August 25 2025
St. Thomas More Collegiate a progressive coed Blessed Edmund Rice Christian Brother Catholic Independent high school in Burnaby B.C. is seeking a secondary school educator to join our Mathematics department. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of a collaborative teaching team within our Math department whose goal is the positive growth and development of students. This full time position will encompass various Math classes from grade 8 to 12 with the final course load dependent on consultation with the Mathematics Head of Department and the relevant experience of the successful candidate.
The STMC Mathematics Department places great emphasis on the development of mathematically powerful students. Our curriculum focuses on numeracy skills and competencies as well as their practical application in higher education and the workplace.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous secondary school experience teaching a variety of Math courses and a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Potential candidates must be a member or be in the process of becoming a member of the British Columbia College of Teachers or hold a BC Independent School Teachers Certificate. Letters of application accompanied by a resume and the names of two referees should be received in a timely manner.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications experiences and abilities:
- Must hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate or letter of permission
- Ideally hold an undergraduate degree with a major in Math or a Bachelors degree in Education with a focus in Math
- Be familiar with the BC Mathematics Curriculum
- Be familiar with the BC Curriculums use and implementation of proficiency scales
- Excellent English written communication and presentation skills
- Understand and demonstrate the need for culturally responsive teaching and learning
- Use engaging technology to enhance learning
- Familiar with concepts of UDL and the experience to develop instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to build and foster educational growth
- Create a classroom environment that promotes mutual respect and security to take personal educational risks
- Foster supportive relationships with students and families
- Implement a range of authentic learning assessments that provide timely feedback to students and a clear direction for parents
- Maintain accurate ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching learning and reporting
- Maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues students and parents
- Be willing to contribute to the cocurricular and cultural life of the school and model the values espoused by Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education
