Job Description

Overview

The Talent Acquisition Specialist at the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) plays a vital role in recruiting top talent to support the institutions mission as an academic health center which includes a multispecialty medical group. This position is responsible for the fullcycle recruitment process including sourcing screening and interviewing of highly qualified candidates for faculty clinical and staff roles. Works collaboratively with the HR Client Partner to facilitate a smooth onboarding experience. The specialist partners with hiring managers and leverages AI to develop and execute effective talent acquisition strategies while ensuring an exceptional candidate experience and adherence to equal employment opportunity and diversity hiring best practices.

Responsibilities

1. Recruitment Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with hiring managers HRBPs COEs to assess talent needs and develop recruitment strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with equal employment opportunity laws and diversity hiring initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Compensation Team to ensure job descriptions and job postings are accurate.

2. Sourcing & Candidate Engagement

  • Identify and attract qualified candidates through various sourcing channels including job boards social media networking and career fairs.
  • Build and maintain a talent pipeline for current and future hiring needs.
  • Engage in proactive outreach to passive candidates.

3. Screening & Interview Coordination

  • Review applications and conduct initial phone screenings (as needed) to assess candidate qualifications.
  • Coordinate and facilitate interviews providing guidance to hiring managers on best practices.

4. Offer Management & Onboarding

  • Partner with the Talent team and hiring managers to extend job offers and negotiate compensation packages.
  • Partner with the HR Client Partner to facilitate preemployment processes including background checks and credential verification.
  • Assist HR Client Partner (as needed) with new hire onboarding to ensure a seamless transition into the University.

5. Employer Branding & Outreach

  • Represent the organization at job fairs recruitment events and networking opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with other universities state agencies professional associations and other recruitment sources.
  • Promote the institutions employer brand to attract top talent.

6. Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Monitor recruitment metrics (i.e. TimetoFill Quality of Hire Applicant Conversion Rate Candidate Quality per Source Offer Acceptance Rate Hiring Manager Satisfaction etc. to assess the effectiveness of hiring strategies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in talent acquisition.
  • Ensure recruitment processes align with institutional policies and legal requirements.

Qualifications

Requirements (SkillsBased)

Proficiency in the full Microsoft Suite including Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.

Demonstrated ability to utilize applicant tracking systems (ATS) HRIS platforms and AI.

Knowledge of employment laws regulations and best hiring practices.

Ability to develop and execute sourcing strategies to attract qualified candidates.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with various stakeholders.

Ability to analyze hiring trends and make datadriven recruitment decisions.

Meticulous with the ability to manage multiple requisitions simultaneously.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a challenging environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or a related field preferred.

Experience working in human resources in a healthcare higher education or a related field is a plus.

Certification in HR (e.g. SHRMCP PHR) is preferred.
