Please Note: The Director of Accounting is a hybrid position that allows you to work remotely with the requirement to work in the Easton MD office once a week.

Job Summary:

Directs activities overseeing and managing the financial operations of the organization including strategic planning and of accounting functions to ensure accuracy compliance and financial stability throughout the work area. Owns responsibility for developing and implementing generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in alignment with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements. Communicates direction for financial decisionmaking providing insights and analysis on organizational budgeting forecasting and financial performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directs department in all daytoday accounting functions including leading the monthly close and preparing and presenting financial statements and reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures the governance and maintenance of effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborates with external auditors to coordinate all corporate and subsidiary financial audits.
  • Directs and manages the accounting team providing guidance and support to ensure the teams effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Follows relevant accounting standards and regulations to ensure compliance and accurate financial reporting.
  • Defines strategy to identify and assess financial risks proposing and implementing measures to mitigate them.
  • Communicates direction on tax planning and compliance to ensure adherence to applicable tax laws.
  • Protects and maintains the privacy of associate personnel records including compensation information.
  • Manages team performance through regular timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional services and engagement motivation and team development.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises employees.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Skills

To perform the job successfully an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Business Expertise Indepth understanding of how own department integrates with the Business Area and basic commercial awareness.
  • Problem Solving Uses judgment based on the analysis of information.
  • Nature of Impact Through responsibility for delivery of end results and contribution to planning finances/budget and policy development.
  • Area of Impact Primarily on a Business Area.
  • Interpersonal Skills Developed communication skills ability to negotiate mainly internally and often at higher levels.
  • Leadership Management responsibility for a team of professionals (includes people budget and planning).
  • Functional Knowledge Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of these elements in other disciplines.
  • Project Management Project/Program Manager responsible for oversight of a diverse project team or small program. The project typically has welldefined goals and follows a wellestablished process. Typically completed in 12 months.
