Primary Purpose

The administrator is responsible for leading and managing the day to day operations of the direct care services and programs. S/he will responsible for all program planning organizing operating and staffing. S/he will be responsible for all activities pertaining to licensure human rights personnel finance and contracts. S/he is responsible for developing implementing and managing the program aspects of the annual budget in conjunction with the Business Office Director and CEO. The Administrator will assist the CEO in planning organizing and implementing public and private fundraising initiatives. Will be responsible in directing daytoday functions in accordance with the current Federal State County and Local standards that regulate longterm care. Will oversee and implement the facilitys programs and services as directed.


Essential Duties/Functions

  • Directly oversees and is responsible for the operations and management of the following departments: Nursing Adult Residential Care Home Senior Day Care Wellness Program(Home Care Chore Services Meals To Go) Environmental Services and Food and Nutrition Services.
  • Provides effective and inspiring leadership as well as stewardship of the facility and other business entities by being actively involved and accountable/responsible for all assigned programs and services.
  • Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the program and service areas focusing on systems/process improvement. Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff to give feedback on program operations.
  • Develops and maintains written policies and procedures that govern the operation of the facility. Assures that all employees visitors and the general public follow established policies and take action to correct violations.
  • Ensures that all program activities operate consistently and ethically within the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Plans modifies and maintains the facilitys Information Technology as the IT Officer.
  • Plans develops organizes and directs the facilitys marketing public relations communications pharmacy quality assurance and Abaqis.
  • Leads a high performing team of administration and staff to the next level by further developing and implementing recruitment training and retention strategies.
  • Prepares and submits an annual operational budget with the CEO and Business Office Director for review and approval manage effectively within this budget and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
  • Ensures the continued financial viability of the organizations program/service departments through sound fiscal management. Provides programmatic leadership and input for all strategic planning processes with the CEO Business Office Director and staff.
  • Works with the CEO to represent the organization with external constituency groups including community governmental and private organizations.
  • Maintains a good public relations program that serves the best interest of the facility and community alike.
  • Attends committee and board meetings when required.
  • Participates in the facilitys personnel process when necessary. This may include but is not limited to hiring terminating employment disciplinary hearings and grievance hearings.
  • Maintains an excellent relationship with the residents families staff medical staff and other professional and management staff.
  • Conducts/participates in inservice classes and management level training programs.
  • Assists in establishing a clinical training program for Registered Nurses Nurse Aides and other Health Care Professions to meet all required inservice annual training requirements.
  • Attends workshops seminars and educational sessions to keep updated on changes in the longterm climate and meet biannual CEU(Continuing Education Units) requirements for State Nursing Home Administrator license.
  • Reviews accidents and incident reports. Makes recommendations for an effective safety program for the residents families and staff.
  • Performs the necessary duties of the facilitys abuse coordinator. This includes but is not limited to carrying out the facilitys abuse and prevention protocol by initiating and coordinating abuse and neglect investigations.
  • Reviews resident complaints and grievances and makes written reports of action taken.
  • Assists the Admissions Coordinator and Director of Nursing in prescreening potential new residents.
  • Is a member of the management team with responsibility for general oversight of the organization for:
    • efficient use of resources
    • staff fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities
    • staff follow proper work safety standards
    • regulatory compliance
    • quality resident care
  • Maintains current knowledge/practice of proper infections control and safety procedures.
  • Treats with confidentiality all information obtained; knowledgeable of all practices and policies concerning confidentiality of information.
  • Maintains current physical examination and TB clearance per regulation.
  • Attends any mandatory training and InServices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Working Conditions

Work Area:
Welllighted well ventilated work unit.

Equipment:Ability to operate various types of office equipment such as computer terminals fax machines copiers calculators telephones etc.

Work Hours:The work schedule is primarily during normal business hours Monday Friday with occasional evening and weekend commitments. May be asked to work other than above shifts as resident care requires. The Assistant Nursing Home Administrator will be oncall opposite the Nursing Home Administrator. May be asked to provide weekend rotations for emergencies and to cover staffing as needed.

Mental Demands:Requires providing professional level of services. Also requires a sincere desire to work with the aged and those with limited capacity for selfcare. Subject to frequent interruptions. Exposed to infections odors and peculiarities in the behavior of aged residents.

Physical Demands:Requires intermittent periods of standing; sitting; walking; and is subject to frequent interruptions

Communication Demands:Requires communicating with all levels of staff residents and visitors during the shift. Requires proper documentation of care given.


Qualification Requirements

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Requires the ability to work independently and with a team be flexible and have the ability to work effectively with the elderly personnel and support agencies.
  • Must be a strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams developing an organizationwide strategy for program excellence engaging community partners and partnering with a CEO and board of directors.
  • Be able to point to tangible examples of reporting and program measurement and evaluation.
  • Demonstrates integrity strives for excellence in her/his work and has experience of leading others to new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact.
  • Passionate about the organizations mission and able to promote and communicate the philosophy mission vision and core values of the organization to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to provide onsite leadership for various services and programs.
  • Able to read write speak and understand English to facilitate proper communication with others.
  • Demonstrates autonomy organization assertiveness flexibility and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.

Education/Training/Licenses:Requires the incumbent to be licensed as a Hawaii Nursing Home Administrator in good standing. Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college required. MBA or similar advanced degree preferred. Current Hawaii RN or LPN licensure desired.

Experience:At least 10 years of healthcare experience with a minimum of 5 years leadership experience supervising staff and multiple human service programs across a broad geography.
