Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) seek candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level in the tenure track to lead the development of a scientific Program within the newly established CHOP CVI. Expertise is required in the specific area of the fundamental and/or translational research areas related to the broad area of pediatric heart and vascular diseases. The Director will recruit new faculty to the emerging Program and serve a key leadership role in the development of the CHOP CVI.Applicants must have an M.D. M.D./Ph.D. Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education.
CHOP is a worldclass leader in the delivery of pediatric care research and training pediatric leaders of the future. The pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery groups within the CHOP Cardiac Center are wellknown as innovative leaders in the care of children with congenital forms of heart and vascular disease and in the development of breakthrough therapeutics and diagnostics. Recently the CHOP CVI was launched with the primary mission of establishing a worldclass comprehensive research center that spans basic discovery to translation and clinical implementation relevant to pediatric heart and vascular diseases. The emerging CHOP CVI will be linked in collaborative partnership with the UPenn CVI home to renowned basic and translational scientists. This partnership will provide support and infrastructure for discovery translational and clinical research aimed at cardiovascular health and disease across the entire lifespan. Thematic scientific programs created within the CHOP CVI will dovetail and complement existing UPenn CVI Programs and Centers. We seek an energetic scientist with a wellestablished research group to lead the development of the first CHOP CVI scientific Program.
Teaching responsibilities may include didactic sessions with graduate students and postdoctoral trainees mentoring within the laboratory and the teaching of medical students residents and fellows as well as formal lecture opportunities within the department.
Clinical responsibilities may include patient care depending on the candidate including but not limited to outpatient consultations inpatient consultations and inpatient attending responsibilities.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include maintaining an active research laboratory and supervising students postdoctoral fellows and research staff. Additional responsibilities include writing grants reports and manuscripts developing collaborative and independent research programs and coordinating NIHfunded grant efforts with local national and international collaborators.
Successful applicants will have evidence of sustained federal funding and demonstrated success in fundamental and/or translational research relevant to pediatric cardiovascular diseases including but not limited to cardiac development and regeneration genetics and gene editingbased therapeutics immune/metabolic origins of disease and bioengineering approaches to cardiovascular therapeutics. Responsibilities will include maintaining a vibrant research program recruiting faculty to the newly emerging program and serving as a member of the strategic leadership team leading the development of the new CHOP CVI.
The primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Pediatrics or the department in the Perelman School of Medicine that provides the best scientific fit.
