Assistant Director Program Approval- Administrative Staff and unclassified pursuant to 124.11 (A) (30) and 3333.03 of the Revised Code. Serves at the pleasure of the Chancellor and in a fiduciary capacity to the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). Reports to the Senior Director Program Approval Operations.
- Coordinates the Chancellors program review recommendation and approval process for Ohios public and private colleges degree submissions including new degree requests curriculum changes degree name changes and other related program requests.
- Assists in the program review of in-state and out-of-state private institutions seeking the Chancellors approval to offer degrees in Ohio.
- Assists in the development of and maintains an online electronic submission system for institutions of higher learning).
- Assists in tracking documentation such as progress reports institutional reauthorizations contracts and invoices.
- Edits webpage content maintained by the Office of Academic Program Approval including but not limited to:
- Program Approval Status page;
- Ohios campuses;
- Program Approval FAQs; and
- Tuition Reciprocity Agreements.
- Provides technical assistance and creates training materials for campus staff and reviewers using theelectronic program submission system.
- Offers on-going technical assistance guidance and support to Ohios community colleges university private colleges and universities state agencies students constituents and other stakeholders regarding program development program approval and compliance.
- Coordinates and attends campus site visits.
- Assists the Senior Director in administration of Academic Approval Operations as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Ohio Department of Higher Education is a Cabinet-Level agency for the Governor of the State of Ohio that oversees higher education for the state. The agencys main responsibilities include authorizing and approving new degree programs managing state-funded financial aid programs and developing and advocating policies to maximize higher educations contributions to the state and its citizens.
About Academic Program Approval:
The OhioDepartment of Higher EducationsOffice of Program Development and Approval reviews and makes recommendations to the Chancellor regarding the approval of the following:
- New associate degree and one-year certificate programs proposed by Ohios community colleges
- New undergraduate degree programs proposed by Ohios public universities
- New and continuingeducator licensure and endorsement programs proposedby Ohio public private and out-of-state institutions
- New academic programs offered in Ohio by independent (both not-for-profit and for-profit) and out-of-state institutions
- Out-of-state institutions offering programs in Ohio must seek authorization from the Chancellor if:
- The institution maintains a brick and mortar presence in Ohio;
- The program contains a component (e.g. student teaching clinical placement practicum) that will be completed in Ohio; or
- The institution solicits Ohio residents for its programs (for-profit institutions only).
- Masters degree.
- Experience at campus or state level in academic program administration design and institutional collaboration.
- Knowledge of Ohios higher education system current trends and advancements in higher education and economic development.
- Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with institution staff state agencies students legislators community partners general public and other stakeholders.
- Ability to problem-solve.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to be organized self-motivated collaborative and committed to continuous learning.
- Willingness to travel in and out-of-state as needed.
