Job Description

About the Role:

The Special Projects Division of KPFF is growing and looking for an ambitious and initiativedriven Junior or Senior level Civil Engineering student for a summer internship in the Long Beach Office of our Special Projects Group. The Civil Engineering Summer Internship being offered is approximately 40 hours a week for up to 90 days depending on the candidates availability. There is potential for this internship to convert into a fulltime position after three months based on performance and business needs. Job responsibilities will vary depending on the project and individual intern. Our work leans toward civil designbuild transportation structural industrial and waterfront infrastructure throughout the US with a focus on the West Coast and Pacific Northwest regions. We frequently function as prime consultants and are tasked with solving unusual multidiscipline challenges that require an innovative and teamoriented approach..

What Youll Be Doing:

  • Assist a civil engineer with various tasks associated with the project design including calculations plan production and review and cost estimating.
  • Assist with project site visits. The applicant may be required to navigate through a jobsite and must comply with all Company and Site safety requirements in the office and on the jobsite.  

Example of Projects:

  • Container terminal infrastructure design and construction support
  • Ports; wharf design waterway dredging terminal operations building rail infrastructure
  • Ferry terminals
  • Fisheries Engineering; hatchery building and pond design diversion and intake structures
  • Marinas
  • Site Development for various types of projects including Industrial Commercial Residential
  • Street Improvement Projects

Qualifications :

Who Were Looking For:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering (expected graduation 2025
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project team members and clients on a variety of projects
  • Detail oriented and desire for continued learning
  • Clear communication and writing skills
  • General understanding of stormwater hydrology and hydraulics basics
  • General understanding of AutoCAD and Civil 3D


Additional Information :

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking standing kneeling or navigating uneven terrain.

Compensation:

The salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidates experience education and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate is $27$32 per hour. Should the internship convert into a fulltime position after three months the pay rate will increase accordingly based on performance experience and business needs
