Job Summary:
  • Reporting to the Wickliffe Site HSES Manager, the Safety Specialist spends most of their day providing guidance on safety matters and addressing safety issues. This person will interact and work with the R/D, maintenance and engineering departments, and other internal clients to provide technical support and practical solutions related to safety and compliance, training, emergency management and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership, counsel, and technical assistance to departments to achieve HSES goals
  • Develops and conducts safety training as needed
  • Attends and participates in safety meetings and inspections
  • Participates in site emergency planning, drills, and incident responses
  • Evaluates new chemicals for approval
  • Provides technical support to site management and R&Dregarding safety regulations and Lubrizol standards
  • Prepares updates to site safety policies and programs
  • Maintains record keeping as required by regulations and company policy
  • Serves as a point of contact for internal and external audits and inspections
  • Performs duties related to site RC14001 Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and VPP
  • Performs and/or assists with plant wide and departmental safety audits
  • Assists with corrective actions from internal/external audits, inspections, and visits
  • Leads/participates in safety incident investigations and root cause analyses using techniques such as 5 Why and Cause Map
  • Works with personnel to improve safety on new and existing processes
  • Provides technical/professional support regarding applicable safety regulations, metrics and/or incident tracking
  • Collects, prepares, and presents data
  • Participates on internal and/or corporate sponsored compliance auditing teams
  • Additional duties as assigned

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in science (e.g., chemistry, biology) or engineering
  • Minimum two years of experience in the chemical industry or R/D
  • Competent in basic computer skills
  • Solid communication skills both written and verbal
  • Previous PSM and HAZWOPER experience preferred
  • Professional certification such as CSP preferred

Working Conditions:
  • Spends 50% or greater of workday in the field
  • Able to climb and lift 50 pounds
  • Able to wear PPE including hard hats, hearing protection, respirators, and safety shoes
