Job Overview

Reporting to the Controller, Income Producing Properties, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting; the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information of their assigned portfolio of properties as well as CAM reconciliations and budgets to actuals. The Senior Property Accountant collaborates and maintains good working relationships with various cross functional teams across the organization to contribute and support best practices and continuous improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure financial reporting accuracy for assigned portfolio of residential and commercial properties, including but not limited to bank reconciliation, month-end journal entries, intercompany reconciliations, CAM reconciliations, monthly financial statements and operating statements, and variance analysis
  • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements, and variance analysis
  • Prepare annual property budget, and forecast with input and review by the Asset Management Team
  • Coordinate with the Tax Team to ensure all GST and tax requirements are met
  • Assist with the external review of year-end consolidated financial statements
  • Assist with the annual compliance reporting to financial lending institutions
  • Provide training, guidance and mentorship to the team, fostering a people-first and performance-based culture
  • Support the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable function and ensure revenue, security deposits, and costs are allocated and recorded accurately
  • Evaluate current processes, identify, recommend, and assist with the process improvements across the Income Producing Properties accounting and finance function
  • Assist with the comprehensive Yardi ERP implementation, specifically the Yardi Voyager Residential & Commercial Modules
  • Additional duties as required

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in property accounting
  • University or College Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or equivalent designation
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager highly valued
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to collaborate and interface with cross-functional leads within the organization
  • Strong technical expertise with systems, with the ability to manipulate and validate data
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to effectively multi-task, time manage, and prioritize tasks based on monthly cycles and multiple deadlines
  • Quick learner and works well independently and in a team setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptable to change and continuously seek out improvements to existing processes
