Job Description

Req ID : 1681303

ABOUT THE COMPANY

We are tupu, an early stage Berlin-based start-up with the vision to create a carbon neutral, circular food production system that will change the way we produce and consume food. Using data driven technology and highly efficient land usage we are able to manufacture environmentally friendly products, hence, reducing CO2 emissions.

We are looking for a passionate and mission-driven Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d) to shape one of the most booming and future-critical industries with us. You will work very closely with the founders and become an integral part of our company.

Tasks

Different from traditional farms, our farms rely on automation technologies as an integral part of our production systems. As a mechanical engineer, you will have the opportunity to influence tupu s technical direction and design, prototype, plan, and execute innovative solutions for our farms. You ll be working in close collaboration with our CTO & COO, robotics engineer, and farm operations team to reshape the mushroom farming industry.

Your role will be multi-disciplinary across design, prototyping, validating and testing, but will also include strategic thinking and project planning.

THE CHALLENGES YOU LL FACE

  • Design, prototype, and oversee tupu s mechanical and automation systems (Integration of mechanics, robotics, electronics, hydraulic and pneumatic system, etc.)
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to maximize yield, capacity and capability via hardware initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with different departments and project stakeholders
  • Technical responsibility from conception to implementation, reporting and coordination with the project team
  • Prototype new components to manipulate various farm tools
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues from the field
  • Present data/trade-offs to facilitate design decisions
  • Document failures, issues and rectifications of mechanical systems
  • Prepare risk assessments and method statements, manuals and work instructions
  • Work with cross-functional internal and external teams (e.g. R&D, Operations, etc.) to ensure requests are executed
  • Build/Manage workshop and assembly space

Requirements

  • You hold at least a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics, or similar and have +4 years of practical and theoretical engineering experience. Experience in farm automation is a plus.
  • You are a skilled user of CAD systems (CATIA or Solidworks).
  • Structured problem-solving techniques such as Five Why (5W) and Eight Disciplines (8D)
  • Familiar with state-of-the-art manufacturing methods DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and Lean.
  • Experience with automated manufacturing equipment
  • Work-related experience in injection forming and vacuum molding would be a plus.
  • Test and validation procedures and evidence of troubleshooting and finding rapid solutions
  • You are fluent in English and German

ABOUT YOUR SKILLS

  • You are highly organized and systematic. You are a big fan of documenting processes and monitoring them.
  • You are adaptable. You understand the implication of working in a high-growth environment and know how to deal with unforeseeable challenges. You come up with solutions rather than only problems.
  • You are a self-starter. You are ready to take the lead on our automation projects and require little technical guidance in your area of expertise.
  • You are conceptual, yet hands-on. You think about the long-term vision and the tactics to get there, but at the same time, you are not afraid to get your hands dirty and do tasks by yourself.
  • You are an outstanding communicator. You have the ability to express your ideas concisely, separate the wheat from the chaff , and communicate transparently.
  • You are a team player. You know how to work in a team and how to collaborate.
  • You are passionate about changing the world. You are enthusiastic about our vision and mission and your key driver is to create a positive impact.
  • You go the extra mile. You are devoted and you care, sometimes you do more than what is required to make something happen.
