Job Summary

As a core member of the Platform software team the candidate will be part of a fast-paced high caliber team building diagnostic software to help validate high-speed digital designs and achieve high yields in manufacturing Arista Networks products used in the computer networking industrys largest data centers. This role also offers a unique growth path. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who is interested in exploring an engineering management track in the future.

Who Youll Work With

The Platform software team is responsible for all aspects of the development and delivery of hardware validation and manufacturing diagnostic software. The successful candidate will work closely on a project from its early conception to the final production stage at an off-site contract manufacturer. They will work with fellow engineers and members of the hardware and manufacturing teams to understand the design by reviewing specifications datasheets and schematics.

Based on that they will architect the code required for initial board bring-up design verification testing functional verification testing performance and stress testing etc. They will play a major role in improving yields at the contract manufacturer site as their software will be critical in validating builds and quickly identifying manufacturing defects. They will also provide high-level escalation support for complex hardware-related network issues reported by our end customers.

What Youll Do

This role demands a strong and broad software engineering background and an excellent understanding of hardware board design technology including network ASICs CPUs FPGAs clock and power ICs. The candidates role will not be limited to any single aspect of managing ASIC-based networking solutions but cover all aspects of bringing up new hardware developing all features requiring hardware validation testing the software and hardware and supporting our customers using these products.

Responsibilities

  • Design implement and test production-grade diagnostics software for cutting edge network switches

  • Bring-up newly manufactured boards

  • Isolate and perform root-cause analysis of reported failures

  • Support new platform software and hardware features

  • Coordinate with the hardware engineering team on bring-up schedules and feature delivery

  • Drive architectural design discussions lead code reviews and provide technical direction for complex projects

  • Create system software for our Linux-based appliance platform

  • Work independently as well as in team roles

  • Use a version control system to systematically document and version software


Qualifications :

  • BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

  • Prefer at least 8 of years of software engineering experience with a significant portion focused on hardware validation manufacturing diagnostics or low-level systems programming

  • Expertise in Python development with a strong emphasis on applying object-oriented design principles to architect robust scalable software

  • Strong understanding of Linux internals with the ability to debug and troubleshoot system-level and kernel-level issues is a plus

  • Experienced with board bring-up and validation interaction with hardware (FPGAs ASICs other ICs) using common interconnect buses (I2C SPI MDIO JTAG PCIe)

  • Familiarity with Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking concepts (PHYs MACs Ethernet link training SerDes) and related testing methodologies is highly desirable

  • Demonstrated success driving technical projects from inception to delivery including coordinating across cross-functional teams

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers with a genuine interest in growing into a people leader over time
