Job Overview:
The Deputy Project Manager supports the Construction Director in the overall management and delivery of energy projects with a strong focus on wind and solar farm construction. The role spans tendering pre-construction execution post-award administration and close-out phases.
Acting as the Construction Directors delegate the Deputy Project Manager coordinates project controls subcontractor and vendor interfaces executive reporting and cross-functional alignment (Design Commercial Legal Procurement). The position is designed for a professional capable of independent decision-making proactive risk management and leadership across multiple workstreams ensuring projects are delivered safely on time within budget and in line with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Subcontractor Vendor & Contracts Leadership
Represent the Construction Director in subcontractor and key vendor negotiations including pricing scope schedule and commercial terms
Lead preparation and management of RFI / RFP / RFQ / RFO packages bid evaluations technical-commercial clarifications and recommendation reports
Oversee subcontractor and supplier performance using defined KPIs (schedule progress quality NCRs HSE responsiveness)
Initiate corrective and recovery actions where performance deviates from plan
Prepare formal correspondence meeting minutes and action trackers; ensure disciplined follow-up and closure.
B. Project Controls Planning & Executive Reporting
Develop maintain and challenge master construction schedules (baseline and updates) with clear visibility on critical path and float
Establish and control project budgets cost plans cash-flow forecasts and commitment curves
Track actuals vs. budget and schedule; analyze variances and propose mitigation strategies
Maintain and actively manage the project risk register (time cost interface regulatory logistics) ensuring mitigation actions are implemented
Prepare weekly and monthly executive dashboards covering progress HSE quality commercial status risks and decisions required
Implement and monitor performance tools (S-curves earned value look-ahead plans action logs)
C. Tendering & Pre-Construction (Energy Focus)
Review tender documents (IFC drawings specifications BoQs contracts) for wind and solar projects identifying execution risks and cost drivers
Coordinate closely with Design Commercial Legal and Procurement teams to align scopes interfaces and packaging strategies
Support development of construction methodologies for energy projects including logistics heavy lifts foundations access roads and balance-of-plant works
Contribute to value engineering and constructability reviews specific to renewable energy facilities
D. Project Development & Site Oversight
Conduct site visits and due-diligence assessments (access roads crane pads laydown areas grid interfaces utilities permitting constraints)
Coordinate permitting and authority approvals with consultants and regulators to prevent schedule impacts
Support and document constructability workshops and technical decision-making sessions
Act as a senior interface between site teams and management ensuring site realities are reflected in planning and reporting
E. Stakeholder Management & Governance
Coordinate daily with internal teams EPC contractors consultants and authorities
Lead coordination meetings and technical-commercial discussions when delegated by the Construction Director
Ensure compliance with company governance document control procedures and audit requirements
Maintain clear traceability of decisions approvals and contractual commitments
F. Post-Tender / Post-Award Project Management Support
1. Contract Handover & Mobilization
Support structured handover from tender to execution teams
Finalize subcontract agreements ensuring proper flow-down of obligations milestones LDs warranties and securities
2. Execution Controls & Expediting
Organize and lead kick-off meetings with key subcontractors and vendors
Oversee engineering deliverables material submittals inspections logistics customs clearance site delivery and installation sequencing
Coordinate FAT/SAT activities O&M manuals training and final handover documentation
3. Commercial Management & Change Control
Support management of variations claims and extensions of time
Maintain change registers and provide substantiated narratives for cost and
schedule impacts
Monitor commitments against approved budgets and cash flows
4. Senior Management Reporting
Compile monthly project reports for senior leadership
Clearly flag risks mitigation measures and decisions required to maintain project objectives
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
Mandatory experience in wind farm and/or solar PV plant construction
Strong understanding of civil works for energy projects (foundations access roads platforms drainage balance-of-plant)
Solid grasp of construction sequencing logistics and site constraints for large-scale renewable projects
Strong planning and project controls capability (schedule cost risk KPIs)
Commercial and contractual awareness (BoQs claims variations subcontract administration)
Confident communicator with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
Strong organizational skills multitasking ability and ownership mindset
Software Proficiency:

MS Project or Primavera (working level)
PDF markup tools
Power BI Aconex or ERP systems are a strong plus
