Animals Asia is devoted to ending bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals across Asia. Animals Asia is currently seeking to recruit a qualified candidate for the position English Translator with details as follows:

Position: English Translator

Employment type: Full-time

Contract duration: One-year contract extendable based on performance with initial 2-month probationary period
Work location: Dak Lak

Role Purpose: Provide interpretation/translation service and administrative/HR support to the Veterinary and Behavioural Husbandry Services (VBHS) Department for Animals Asia in Vietnam. This position is based in Dak Lak and is primarily responsible for helping VBHS staff with technical translation delivery for the elephant and government rescue centre projects.

Must be willing to relocate and live in Buon Don area and be willing to travel to different sites daily and be around animals.

The role operates under a dual reporting structure:

  • Solid line to Captive Wildlife Manager: for operational coordination field logistics.
  • Dotted line to VBHS Animal Care and Welfare Manager: For technical supervision and standards professional development and integration of work into the broader VBHS Department.


Responsibilities:


  • Accurately interpret and translate technical animal care welfare husbandry veterinary behavioural management training and conservation terminology between English and Vietnamese. This may be in work activities meetings workshops outreach or field trips.

  • Develop maintain and utilise standardised terminology and glossaries to ensure consistency and accuracy of technical translations across programmes and departments.
  • Support effective communication and knowledge transfer between international and Vietnamese staff by ensuring technical concepts are translated in a way that is both accurate and culturally appropriate.
  • Translate work materials from English to Vietnamese and vice versa including; documents training materials SOPs animal records and reports to ensure clarity accuracy and consistency.
  • Attend animal care welfare and husbandry activities as required to develop and maintain a practical understanding of operational terminology and practices.
  • Provide administrative support when required for example helping to obtain permits for work in border areas for expat staff;
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships between Animals Asia staff and both internal and external partners;
  • Participate in staff training (CPD) both self-directed and external and the performance and development appraisal process to assist in the achievement of Animals Asias objectives and mission;
  • Go on business trips (outreach meetings with partners/stakeholders etc.) as required;
  • Contribute to the on-going review development and implementation of changes to improve the productivity and efficiency of Animals Asia;
  • Promote and advocate Animals Asia and our projects to the public;
  • Follow established Animals Asia procedures and policies and demonstrate best practice at work;
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the VBHS Director Animal Care and Welfare Managers or Captive Wildlife Manager.


Requirements



Skills / Abilities

  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to live and work closely with the rest of the team comprising both expatriate and local staff
  2. Able to work equally well indoors in front of a computer or outdoors (often near animals) to help people to communicate

Knowledge

  1. Technical expertise in translation from English to Vietnamese and vice versa
  2. Cultural sensitivity and awareness
  3. Awareness of medical or animal behaviour terms

Experience

  1. At least two years of relevant work experience in an English-speaking environment or recent graduates with exceptional skills
  2. Experience in communicating with both expatriate and local staff

Education / Qualification

A university degree in English language major or other fields which use English as a main teaching language


Languages: Native Vietnamese and strong English (written and spoken).
