Job Summary
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air noise and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country with nearly 6000 employees. DEPs water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire an Associate Project Manager I within the Drinking Water Operations South Engineering Group Drinking Water Operations Directorate located in Valhalla New York. Under supervision of the Engineering Manager the Associate Project Manager I will be responsible for overseeing the bureaus service contracts and providing technical support to the Engineering Group in the maintenance repair testing and inspection of equipment and structures essential to the operation of drinking water treatment facilities. This work ensures continued compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations and supports the reliable delivery of safe high quality water. The APM I coordinates project scope guides design development and monitors construction activities to ensure that capital and maintenance projects are executed efficiently safely and in alignment with regulatory and operational requirements. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills clear communication and a commitment to supporting the bureaus critical public service responsibilities. Specific duties include:
- Provide technical support to the Engineering Group by preparing and reviewing plans drawings specifications and cost estimates for in house service and construction projects. Responsibilities also include developing technical sketches and performing mathematical calculations.
- Assist with coordination during construction and repair activities for in house projects capital projects and Job Order Contracts (JOCs) projects of moderate difficulty and complexity within the DWO South directorate.
- Support technical documentation including minor design work for new installations or equipment replacements. Preparing technical specifications engineering plans and contract bid packages developing cost estimates or obtaining vendor quotes for supplies equipment tools and services and assisting with research or investigations related to equipment or facility deficiencies.
- Establish project time and cost schedules to support effective planning and execution.
- Determine and coordinate activities among the individuals agencies and departments responsible for project completion.
- Review schedules reports and orders prepared by consultants contractors and agencies to ensure conformance with project timelines and requirements.
- Monitor work performance and resolve issues that arise during meetings or project coordination activities.
- Meet with City agencies contractors and other stakeholders to support project planning and execution.
- Participate in the bid process and contractor selection.
- In the temporary absence of the immediate supervisor assume the duties of that position as needed.

Medical Requirement
Candidates will be required to wear a respirator while performing the essential functions of this position. The selected candidate must be physically able to wear a respirator and must not have any condition that would prevent a good face seal when wearing a respirator. OSHA regulations have established medical guidelines for wearing a respirator. Therefore the candidate will be required to have pre-employment and periodic post-appointment medical examinations to demonstrate that they meet applicable OSHA standards and to monitor medical status. Once hired employees must continue to satisfy OSHA regulations for the duration of their employment.
License Requirement
At the time of appointment candidates must possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. Employees must maintain this license for the duration of employment.

Some of the physical activities performed by Associate Project Managers and environmental conditions experienced are: walking to and from inspection sites and during the course of inspections climbing and descending ladders or stairs to get to areas to be inspected including exposed heights and confined spaces standing for extended periods of time distinguishing colors bending stretching and stooping during inspections communicating orally climbing over and around various objects walking in areas that may be damp moldy dark dusty smoky vermin infested noisy acrid or containing fumes emissions extreme heat and cold lead dust asbestos or other potentially hazardous material and working outdoors in all kinds of weather.
Special Working Conditions: Associate Project Managers may be required to work shifts including nights Saturdays Sundays and holidays.

Qualifications :
One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work such as planning administering managing coordinating or expediting on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects or supervising a construction project with a value of $or more and either:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering engineering technology architecture landscape architecture architectural technology construction construction management construction technology sustainable design urban planning urban studies city planning transportation planning business administration or public administration and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work such as planning administering managing coordinating or expediting for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in 1 above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience described in 1 above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. One year of experience credit will be given for: (a) each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering engineering technology architecture landscape architecture architectural technology construction construction management construction technology sustainable design urban planning urban studies city planning transportation planning business administration or public administration; (b) a Masters degree from an accredited college or university in one of the disciplines described in 1 above; (c) a Juris Doctor degree or (d) a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect. Where experience which is primarily of a design nature is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I candidates must have at least one additional year of experience as described in 1 above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
