Job Summary

Reports To: Instructional Officer for ECSE LIFE Skills and TIP

Duty Days:228 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: I02

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in related field

Masters degree in related field (preferred)

Valid Supervision and Mid-Management Certificate (preferred)

Valid Texas teachers certificate in related field

Three years classroom experience within a self-contained classroom

Ability to work with school staff and parents

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership in the delivery of instructional programs for students with significant cognitive disabilities through curriculum development staff development program development and evaluation and model teaching.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Instructional Officer for in screening applicants for positions in assigned areas of responsibilities.
  2. Support and oversee Lead Teachers in LIFE Skills
  3. Coordinate and monitor the development and implementation of curriculum for students with disabilities.
  4. Mentor teachers responsible for educating students with significant cognitive disabilities in the development of instructional strategies develop appropriate IEPs and attend staffings and ARDS as appropriate.
  5. Work to ensure a continuum of services for students with disabilities.
  6. Serve as a resource to campuses by observing students modeling effective teaching strategies developing appropriate IEPs and attending staffings and ARDS as appropriate.
  7. Provide input to campus administrators responsible for conducting teacher appraisals by identifying the critical attributes required of teachers in successful classrooms for students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  8. Conduct staff development for all teachers serving students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  9. Work with teachers to help with behavior management strategies for overall classroom management and for individual student needs.
  10. Develop and implement an evaluation process for elementary programs serving students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  11. Develop program standards utilizing best practices to meet the needs of students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  12. Help in the process of ESY including but not limited to; entering data supervising the staff and students during ESY help with set up and training and help with the end of ESY.
  13. Communicate regularly with Instructional Officer for PPCD LIFE Skills and TIP.
  14. Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  15. Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
