Software Asset Management Analyst
Location: Remote
Duration: 6 Months
Pay rate: $45 - $50/hr on W2
Position Overview: (note: Candidates need to have had the title SW Asset Manager in a previous position)
Role Overview
Seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst to serve as the primary hands-on resource for software entitlement management license fulfillment and access governance. This role will sit within the IT Asset Management group who oversees general ITAM and end-user device/hardware asset management.
This is a day-one readiness role. Customer needs someone with direct SAM experience - this title should appear on your resume and represent your primary function not a secondary responsibility. The right candidate can step in immediately and own the queue without a ramp-up period.
Core Responsibilities
ServiceNow Ticket Management (Primary Duty)
This person will be the primary hands-on-keyboard resource for all software asset management requests flowing through ServiceNow. Daily work includes:
Triage and fulfill ServiceNow requests for software entitlements access provisioning and true-up adjustments
Allocate licenses and create entitlements directly within the ServiceNow console
Process reclamations and license harvesting when users depart or change roles
Respond to requesters with guidance on usage rights installation steps or re-harvesting options
Maintain accurate entitlement and allocation records within ServiceNow/CMDB
Microsoft & Adobe Admin Console Management
Microsoft and Adobe are the companys two largest and most critical software portfolios. Deep familiarity with both vendor portals is essential:
Manage user provisioning license assignments and access requests within the Microsoft Admin Center
Configure purchase and manage licenses in the Adobe Admin Console
Run usage and compliance reports from both consoles
Understand and apply licensing models specific to Microsoft (M365 EA/CSP structures) and Adobe (CCE named-user team vs. enterprise plans)
Broad Software Portfolio Coverage
Beyond Microsoft and Adobe the company manages access to approximately 1000 additional software tools. Instruction and runbooks will be provided for one-off or infrequently used applications but the analyst must be capable of:
Granting and revoking access to a wide variety of SaaS tools and on-prem applications
Pulling reports from various software platforms as needed
Adding and managing users across a diverse application landscape
Escalating unfamiliar licensing scenarios appropriately with good judgment
Entitlement & Contract Tracking
Maintain accurate software inventories entitlement records and renewal calendars
Track EULAs SaaS subscription terms true-up clauses and OEM bundles
Coordinate with Procurement on POs contract alignment and consumption data
Reporting & Analysis
Develop and maintain dashboards (Power BI / Excel) covering installs vs. licenses renewal timelines cost-per-user and shelfware identification
Produce Effective License Position (ELP) reports and present compliance and cost findings to stakeholders
Surface anomalies and optimization opportunities proactively - dont wait to be asked
Continuous Improvement & Governance
Document and improve provisioning SOPs KPIs and escalation workflows
Support internal audits and savings initiatives (e.g. reharvest campaigns license consolidation)
Recommend tooling or data-quality enhancements as opportunities arise
Required Skills & Experience
Direct Software Asset Management experience - SAM or ITAM should be your primary job title and function not a secondary skill; several years in the role is expected
Hands-on ServiceNow proficiency - specifically ticket workflow management entitlement creation allocations and reclamations (SAM Pro or ITSM module experience preferred)
Microsoft licensing expertise - fluency with M365 EA/CSP models and the Microsoft Admin Center is required
Adobe licensing expertise - familiarity with Creative Cloud for Enterprise (CCE) named-user plans and the Adobe Admin Console is required
Strong analytical skills - ability to work with large datasets in Excel (Pivot Tables Power Query) or Power BI and produce clear actionable reporting
Solid grasp of common license models - per-device named-user SaaS/subscription concurrent and metric-based
Effective communication - clear and professional with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; expected to be present and engaged on video calls
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Certified SAM or ITAM credentials (CSAM CITAM or ISO 19770)
Experience with discovery and inventory tools such as SCCM/Intune Flexera Snow or Tanium
Familiarity with ITIL v4 or a similar service-management framework
Finance or cost-allocation background for charge-back or cost-center modeling
Scripting or automation skills (PowerShell Python) for data cleanup or reporting
Experience with additional tier-1 publishers such as IBM Oracle or Salesforce
