Role: Senior Mainframe Tech Product Owner Location: Austin TX (Temple TX- office 3 times a week) Job Type: Contract Can do Only W2. No C2C
The core requirement is a senior Technical Product Owner for our mainframe modernization program.
This is a large multi year multi track effort and success hinges on strong technical product ownership more than incremental cloud engineering capacity.
We are looking for a hands on senior level TPO who has led mainframe modernization programs end to end not just participated in them.
Critical skills:
Must-Have: Ability to map legacy business processes to modern technical requirements.
Must-Have: Understanding of Data Integration (how to get data out of a mainframe via CDC or APIs).
Nice-to-Have: Hands-on COBOL experience (they dont need to code just understand the logic) JCL CICS Control M z/OS systems
Ability to decompose a complex modernization into clear workstreams EPICs and execution plans
Strong command of Product / Agile execution (Jira backlog ownership sprint goals) aligned to our PAD (Product Agile DevSecOps) model
Ownership of technical plan sequencing dependencies RAID and decisioning including executive level reporting
Replat forming Experience: Familiarity with Mainframe-to-Cloud re-hosting patterns (e.g. Micro Focus Rocket Software) and the nuances of environmental parity EBCDIC-to-ASCII conversion and batch job translation VSAM to RDBMS/Flat Files.
Expected artifacts and outcomes include (non exhaustive):
Clearly defined modernization workstreams with EPICs and aligned stories
Architecture views mapped directly to EPICs and milestones
Decision logs RAID logs dependency matrices
Wave plans milestone tracking and leadership ready status reporting
Soft skill expectations are equally important:
Proactive stakeholder engagement across engineering data cloud and PMO teams
Strong sense of urgency and ownership
Continuous re evaluation of assumptions while maintaining forward momentum
Supporting Skills (Secondary)
GCP/cloud architecture and hands on engineering are supporting skills not the primary drive
