Job Summary
The Reg Radiology Tech 1 provides direct supervision for the technical and support functions of a department within the Imaging division or department. Coordinates daily operations within their division or department to ensure that patient care services are delivered in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the hospital mission. The Supervisor of Radiology maintains the daily coordination of patient procedures and employee services including work schedules competencies performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. The Supervisor maintains regulatory standards for the department and assists in performing non-supervisory duties as needed.
Responsibilities
- Clinical skills: Radiologic principles and theory anatomy and pathology processes are demonstrated utilizing the most appropriate technique an/or position for optimal examinations as demonstrated by exam results.
- Policies and protocols are adhered to ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation as demonstrated by exam results.
- Sound radiography principles are taught to staff and students as required by organization and supervisors direct observation.
- Appropriate adult/geriatric/pediatric/neonatal patient care is provided and the technologist assesses and interprets data based on the patients status and the age-specific needs of each individual and demonstrated this by successfully completing age-specific checklist criteria.
- Physicians orders and reports are checked for inaccuracies and errors are reported to the RN or Charge Tech. The completeness and accuracy is evidenced by have no exams done with out proper orders.
- Patient/General Safety: Effectively communicates with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patients chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination as evidenced by the exam results.
- Procedures are explained to patients/families and technologist answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation as evidenced by customer satisfaction.
- Assistance is provided to the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols isolation precautions and/or sterile technique as evidenced by physicians satisfaction.
- Clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams are identified and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
- Patient safety is demonstrated in department by use of side rails braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as evidenced by risk management reports.
- Any adverse unsafe or unusual condition is reported documented and corrected as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports or department specific log books.
- Equipment Maintenance: An orderly safe and clean state environment is maintained and rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required with supplies readily available for procedures at all times.
- Equipment is operated according to manufacturers specifications and images are acquired in appropriate technique as required as evidenced by exam results.
- Equipment is troubleshoot effectively and immediately and reports equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor as evidenced by service reports.
- The employee Performs/recognizes need for routine maintenance of all equipment to maintain consistent quality images as evidenced by the physician satisfaction and the exam results.
- Documentation/Communication:Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
- Patients are tracked according to department procedures and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections as evidenced by the RIS reports.
- The technologist participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiative in-services and meetings as evidenced by attendance records.
- Radiation safety: Exposure readings are maintained within the ALARA limits as evidenced by monthly radiation exposure reports.
- Effective use of radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding is utilized at all times as evidenced by incidence reports and supervisor observation.

American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT)
New Graduates - Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license
BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
