Job Summary

JOB GOALS:

1. Oversee and implement the Special Education evaluation process for all students at the assigned school location.
2. Chairing of Special Education initial and re-evaluation meetings as well as other meetings as assigned.

3. To provide the appropriate support information and assistance to staff and parents necessary to promote successful student learning growth and personal and social adjustment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TESTING AND STUDENT ASSESSMENT

of students at assigned school location.
2. Interprets the results and significance of test results to students parents and staff as required.
3. Participates in and leads team meetings.
4. Writes testing reports in accordance with special education regulations and district needs.
5. Participates in the schools STAT (MTSS) process making suggestions around interventions and potential referrals for evaluation.
**Annual Evaluation caseload approximately 60 evaluations (Initials and re-evals.)

TEAM CHAIRPERSON

1. Resides over Initial and Reevaluation TEAM meetings insuring that all participate that notes are maintained and process/paperwork is complete.
2. Monitors timelines ensuring that the district maintains compliance with special education requirements and mandates.
3. Helps to troubleshoot problems/issues with staff parents and other parties.
4. Keeps current with special education law mandates and state policies and procedures.
5. Keeps current with and implements district special education policies and procedures.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION


1. Oversees the maintenance for complete and accurate records concerning each special education student in conjunction with state and federal regulations.
2. Oversees the maintenance of files and information in a manner so as to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the information and so as to assure ready access by authorized personnel.
3. Performs all duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Special Education.


RELATIONSHIPS AND COMMUNICATIONS
2. Maintains effective contact with outside agencies that serve our students and their parents: the courts probation officers welfare workers private counselors etc.
3. Assists students teachers and parents in locating and using available information and resources within the SPED office.
4. As necessary meets with teachers administrators and specialists to discuss the problems and progress of individual students.
5. Aids the faculty and staff in the interpretation and use of information in student SPED records.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Attends professional events and conferences as permitted or directed.
2. Keeps abreast of developments in the field of counseling and special education.
3. Incorporates constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement in performance made by supervisor(s).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Massachusetts Certification.

2. Demonstrates ability to instruct school students and to maintain purpose and order in the classroom and all other areas of the school.

3. Commitment to continuously improve professional competence

4. Demonstrates ability to design and deliver instruction to facilitate learning consistent with the philosophy goals curriculum and policies as established by the School Committee
