Description of Work

The North Carolina Highway Patrols Technical Services Unit is seeking a Network Manager to our team The The Network Manager I is responsible for the strategic planning architecture design and operational reliability of enterprise-class statewide network and communications systems supporting law enforcement and public safety operations.

This position serves as the lead enterprise network engineer and primary technical authority for the North Carolina State Highway Patrols statewide network infrastructure ensuring secure resilient and standards-based connectivity. Scope includes Local Area Networks (LAN) Wide Area Networks (WAN) IT security Voice over IP (VoIP) and data center and communications environments.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engineering design and planning of network systems facilities and data communications infrastructure

  • Technical leadership for installation maintenance and support across a multi-system multi-platform environment

  • Coordination of inter-agency and inter-departmental connectivity initiatives

  • Assessment of operational needs; development of system designs technical specifications and cost estimates

  • Evaluation and recommendation of hardware and software solutions to support network expansion and sustainability

  • Oversight of system implementations and upgrades ensuring compliance with design standards and formal acceptance of completed work

  • Supervision of technical staff including development review and approval of work plans and deliverables

Management Prefers:

  • Experience designing and managing law enforcement network infrastructure.

  • Extensive experience with IS-IS (Intermediate System Intermediate System) routing protocol within mission critical telecommunication environments.

  • Strong and demonstrated history with data center architecture and design.

  • Extensive experience designing and supporting SPBM-based Layer 2 network architectures.

Position/Physical Requirements:

Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

four years of progressive experience in telecommunications network management analysis or design;

OR

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

five years of progressive experience in telecommunications network management analysis or design; or High School

OR

General Educational Development (GED) diploma

and

eight years of progressive experience in telecommunications network management analysis or design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
