Litigation Attorney

About the Role:

An established law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with at least three years of legal experience to join its education and public agency practice. Preferred backgrounds include public agency representation education law labor and employment law or civil litigation. This role offers direct client interaction mentorship and hands-on experience advising educational institutions and public agencies on litigation governance labor relations student matters special education and operational issues. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator strategic problem-solver and collaborative legal professional committed to serving public-sector clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in litigation mediation arbitration administrative proceedings and related matters in both state and federal courts.
  • Manage all phases of litigation including legal research discovery motion practice hearings and trial preparation.
  • Provide legal counsel on education law employment disputes governance issues workplace investigations employee discipline matters and ADA accommodations.
  • Advise clients regarding collective bargaining labor negotiations and labor relations matters involving school employees and public sector workforces.
  • Counsel clients on student-related legal issues including First Amendment matters FERPA compliance student discipline due process hearings and conduct proceedings.
  • Provide guidance on business operations facilities management public contracting real estate matters and energy-related issues.
  • Handle special education matters including Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Section 504 meetings compliance investigations and administrative complaints.
  • Develop practical legal strategies and solutions tailored to client needs and organizational objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and trusted legal counsel.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas to deliver comprehensive legal support and representation.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Minimum of three years of legal experience preferably in public agency education labor and employment or litigation practice.
  • Strong legal research analytical writing and advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of California public agency law and education law is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to collaboration professionalism and client service excellence.
  • Demonstrated initiative sound judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
