Job Summary
Materials Lab Technician
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Materials Lab Technician specializing in hardness and material testing is responsible for conducting precise laboratory analyses to determine the hardness properties of various materials. This role supports quality control research & development and production processes by ensuring materials meet required specifications for safety durability and performance.
Duties Include:
- Perform various part property-testing such as specific gravity& Barcol hardness tests as directed by the lab technician on mainly composite products.
- Generate test reports & certifications for all Porta Shear tests conducted on Patriot bond test components.
- Interface with Production to ensure testing priorities are in line with meeting manufacturing needs when required.
- Maintain all temperature & humidity charts in production & lab areas weekly.
- Learn drilling and testing Patriot structures for Porta Shear tests (bond test).
- Other lab testing and specimen preparation as directed.
General department support for filing and scanning and packing as needed. Key Responsibilities:
- Dealing with Acids and mechanical testing /Re-certs Hardness Testing & Analysis: Perform hardness tests (e.g. Rockwell Vickers Brinell) on metals polymers ceramics and composites using calibrated equipment.
- Sample Preparation: Prepare and condition materials/samples according to ASTM ISO or other relevant standards.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate hardness testers calibrate instruments and perform routine maintenance to ensure accuracy.
- Data Recording & Reporting: Accurately document test results observations and interpretations; prepare reports for internal or client use.
- Lab Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols handle hazardous materials safely and maintain proper labeling storage and disposal.
- Inventory & Batching Support: Manage lab inventory schedule material batches and coordinate with production/purchasing teams.
- R&D Collaboration: Assist in developing new testing methods and analyzing new material formulations.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed lab records and participate in safety meetings.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma. Additional courses in math & chemistry plus.
- One or two years of work experience in a lab environment is mandatory.
- Must be a good communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work safely throughout our manufacturing facilities.
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs. without assistance; or greater than 40 lbs. with assistance from another person or with appropriate lift/move apparatus.
- Sit stand bend stoop reach push and pull as needed for duration of work shift.
- Able to work effectively under pressure of deadlines.
- Able to work full time at least 8 hours a day and 5 days a week.
- Good vision required (with or without corrective lenses).
