Job Summary
Under general supervision handles and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic analysis. Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens received. Embeds sections and stains a wide variety of routine tissue. Performs routine special stains coverslips slides and accurately labels slides and blocks. Responsible for sign out of slides and filing of blocks. Records work in laboratory log books and in hospital computer with a high level of accuracy. Maintains laboratory equipment and working solutions for stains. Identifies problems and brings to the attention of more senior staff. Assists in the orientation and training of new laboratory staff.Qualifications
Education
Bachelors Degree Related Field of Study required

Histotechnician HT(ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred Histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred
Experience
Clinical or histology experience 0-1 year required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation decalcification processing embedding and routine staining.
- Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.
