Performs chemical and radioactive waste collection and preparation for disposal in support of Fred Hutch operations. Manages the Research lab coat program. Assists the Industrial Hygiene and Fire and Life Safety programs as required.

Responsibilities
  • Collect chemical and radioactive waste on a daily basis.
  • Consolidate chemical waste solvents and perform lab pack preparation of chemical wastes according to disposal facility requirements.
  • Assist with chemical waste shipments.
  • Assist with development implementation and presentation of hazardous waste and EH&S policies and training programs.
  • Monitor and rotate radioactive waste for decay.
  • Assist lab personnel with the shipment of dangerous goods.
  • Respond to hazardous material spills and water intrusion events as required.
  • Manage the Research lab coat program.
  • Assist with fire drills and other Fire & Life safety programs as requested.
  • Conduct laboratory safety audits and hazardous waste compliance inspections.
  • Advise lab staff on the safe storage of hazardous materials.
  • Manage the Universal Waste program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in a technical field directly related to the position and a minimum of 2 years progressive experience or a high school diploma with a minimum of 5 years progressive experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in chemistry biology or closely related scientific field and a minimum of 2 years progressive experience.
  • Current RCRA DOT and 24hr HAZWOPER certifications.
  • Current IATA Dangerous Goods shipping certification.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds / 5 gallon carboys and move 55 gallon drums using a drum dolly.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including respirators.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $31.83 to $47.73 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
