Job Summary

Introduction

The Maryland School for the Deaf provides an inclusivelanguage-rich environment for deaf and hard of hearing students from birththrough age 21. This is an 11-month position.

LOCATION OF POSITION

The position will bebased primarily on the Frederick Campus; however the School Psychologist will alsocarry a caseload of students on the Columbia Campus and must be able to travelbetween both locations as needed.

Main Purpose of Job

The school psychologist supports students from early childhood through high school by applying expertise in mental health learning and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically socially emotionally and behaviorally. This position enhances teachers capacity to teach and students capacity to learn by partnering with families teachers school administrators and other school professionals to create safe healthy and supportive learning environments. The role also strengthens connections between home school and the broader community to promote student wellbeing and positive educational outcomes.

POSITION DUTIES

The school psychologist is an 11month position responsible for providing directdiagnostic/assessment and counseling services to MSD students participating inIndividualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and offering professionalconsultation and training to school staff and families. The role supports bothcampuses and collaborates closely with educational teams to address studentneeds including providing behavioral support through the assessment of studentbehavior development of evidencebasedinterventions and guidance to staff on implementing effective strategies. Theschool psychologist supports several school teams and committees including theAdmissions Review Team (ART) Threat Assessment Team Research ReviewCommittee and initiatives related to PBIS and MTSS while maintaining ongoingcommunication with administrative staff and school personnel regarding studentmental health needs and services. The position is supervised by the Supervisorof Mental Health and Behavioral Support Services and may also providesupervision to school psychology and counseling interns or practicum students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Masters Degree in School Psychology is required.

School Psychologists must be credentialed by the state in which they work. The Maryland StateDepartment of Education (MSDE) School Psychologist License is required (or the ability to obtain in aspecific time).

Experience working with students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Fluency in ASL.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Several years of experience in the field is preferred (but not required).

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

School Psychologists must be credentialed by the state inwhich they work. The Maryland State Department ofEducation (MSDE) School Psychologist License isrequired (or the ability to obtain in a specific time).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal backgroundinvestigation at their own expense (Maryland Code Family Law Article 1Sections)

Candidates will need to providethree letters of recommendation with their application.

Candidates will also need to submit several worksamples including redacted assessment reports.
