Schedule: 30 hours a week. Monday through Friday (with Weekend & Evening Availability for emergencies and inspection of facilities)

Job Summary

Performs a variety of general maintenance and repair of buildings grounds and equipment at the various properties owned by the Catholic Community of Gonzales & Waelder to include minor carpentry electrical plumbing HVAC filters and condensation drains painting landscaping etc. Prepares facilities for inclement weather. Responds to off-hours equipment and maintenance issues of facilities in evenings and on weekends. Inspects buildings after weekend rentals. Maintains supplies for cleaning and consumables in various churches and supplies for mass and worship aides in various churches comprising the Catholic Community of Gonzales and Waelder. Limited janitorial duties may be assigned. Maintains cemetery and safety in the cemetery by filling holes after rain or drought along with marking gravesites for burial and for placement of monuments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Routine inspection of facilities to determine necessary maintenance to be performed.

Completes all maintenance work assigned and responds to after hour building maintenance and emergencies.

Perform repairs or general maintenance including minor carpentry electrical plumbing HVAC (filters and drains) glazier masonry painting and janitorial work as needed. (Exception: routine janitorial work is performed by a part-time custodian.)

Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them checking repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary.

Use of tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers hoist saws drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

Moves and assists in transporting furniture and delivery of items to and from various facilities/sites.

Maintains security of campus buildings including checking opening closing and locking doors windows and gates activating and deactivating building alarms and responding to alarm calls during and outside regular work hours. Repels insect manifestations outside of contracted extermination services.

Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and alterations of landscape areas: remove or eliminate weeds trim shrubs maintain flower beds minor tree trimming and maintain proper irrigation and drainage of facilities. Sweep or blow dirt and debris from entrance areas of various buildings. Sprinkler maintenance of crape myrtles at cemetery. (Exception: general contractor performs mowing of all properties including cemetery.)

Prepares sets up and breaks down meeting rooms per work order request to include tables chairs and meeting equipment/projectors.

Maintains an inventory of facility maintenance items supplies for cleaning and consumable items such as toilet paper paper towels etc. Uses local business accounts for purchasing supplies through local vendors and arranges for their pick-up or delivery.

Maintains supply at churches of candles wine hosts and replaces worship aides and missalettes seasonally. Communicates to parish office manager the need to order church related supplies in a timely manner.

Receives shipments of supplies and relocates them to their proper storage area. Maintains all storage areas for both supplies and for tools in an orderly and organized manner.

Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.

Assist and attends to authorized general contractors and inspectors including HVAC plumbers electricians alarm service providers and fire and safety inspectors.

Marks graves and placement of monuments in cemetery. Opens new cemetery rows for burial using measurement and basic surveying. Fills holes in cemetery after periods of rain or drought.

Uses a ladder to assist placement of banners in the various churches cleaning high elevated windows changing lights/light fixtures.

Floor refinishing (strip and wax) in the off-season and various other projects that do not require a general contractor.

Responds to work orders outside of normal day to day tasks that are not allocated to general contractors.

Adhere to safety training and Archdiocesan protocols. Takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others.

Adherence to Archdiocesan Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Two (2) years proven experience building / facilities maintenance
  • Strong organizational skills ability to plan and organize to meet parish goals and deadlines
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management
  • Working knowledge of general maintenance tools

Preferred Additional:

  • Licensed plumbing electrical and HVAC
  • Previous buildings maintenance staff manager experience
  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish)

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move 25-50 pounds and larger items using a hand truck.
