The Morgan Elementary School Nurse serves as the health leader within the Morgan School community providing leadership in the development implementation and oversight of school health services policies and programs. The school nurse promotes student health and well-being through direct nursing care health education collaboration with families and staff and advocacy for students physical emotional mental and social health. By fostering a healthy school environment the school nurse plays a vital role in supporting student learning and academic success.
This position offers comprehensive orientation ongoing professional support and the opportunity to work as part of an experienced and collaborative nursing team. Holyoke Public Schools provides a competitive salary and benefits package. This position will remain open until filled.
The School Nurse:
Works under the general supervision of the Superintendent/Receiver Chief of Pupil Services and Director of Health Wellness and Nursing.
Works collaboratively and cooperatively with the School Building Principal and Administration.
Works with a supportive team (orientation and training provided).
Collaborates and conducts state-mandated programs such as screening programs.
Maintains up-to-date school records.
Provides medically prescribed interventions including medication administration and cares for ill or injured children on a daily basis.
Provides emergency health care and referral to staff.
Manages the medication administration plan in the school.
Acts as a resource in health education to school personnel students and families.
Uses community resources for referral of students with unmet health needs including the need for a primary care provider.
Serves as liaison between school personnel family and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
Performs related duties as needed.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) required
Bachelors Degree in Nursing
Experience as a Registered Nurse in child health community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting preferred
Current CPR certification
Ability to read interpret and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
Drivers license and own transportation required
Required license(s):
Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
Current CPR/AED
