Dye-Dilution Testing (DDT) Field Tech II

This is a great opportunity to apply your skills to solve real world problems to improve our regional wastewater infrastructure water quality the environment and public health. You will combine problem-solving data collection & analysis time management planning and prioritization communication and collaboration knowledge skills and abilities to perform wastewater conveyance system investigations flow monitoring equipment maintenance and troubleshooting collect analyze and communicate wastewater flow data and information used to support various conveyance system improvement and combined sewer overflow projects and programs. You will have the opportunity to work individually and as part of a team with a wide range of people throughout Wastewater Treatment division (WTD) with consultants and other governmental agencies.

About the Role:

About the Team:

The Flow Monitoring and Analysis (FM&A) Work Group performs monitoring of WTDs conveyance system to provide reliable flow data and information for the management and upgrades of the (wastewater conveyance) system. The Dye-Dilution Testing (DDT) Field Tech will work and collaborate with FM&A staff project managers planners modeling staff operations staff and others to ensure useful reliable flow data and information meets the capital and operating needs of WTD.

Some of the projects and efforts the FM&A work group supports include:

• Assess system capacity and Infiltration/Inflow issues and determine system needs for long-term planning for the management and upgrade of the WTD conveyance system
• Perform Hydraulic Modeling and Calibration
• Quantify CSOs for NPDES reporting to the Washington Department of Ecology (DOE)
• Understand and evaluate flow conditions in support of a wide range of WTD programs and projects including Sewer Heat Recovery Mouth of Duwamish (MOD) and Conveyance System Improvements.
• Determine the timing and sizing of future facilities and to foster the efficient use of funds
• Manage the system during peak and/or emergency storm or flow events including collaborating with local agencies (example monitor UIC wells and SPU/KC M&M agreements)
• Support construction and O&M activities within the system

What You Will Be Doing:

• Perform dye-dilution testing (DDT) in wastewater systems to verify flow meter accuracy
• Conduct sampling and laboratory analysis of wastewater to support flow measurement accuracy verification.
• Perform field surveys site investigations and inspections of sewer structures maintenance holes and conveyance assets for DDT suitability.
• Identify suitable injection and sampling points and verify connectivity between upstream and downstream locations.
• Operate maintain and troubleshoot dye-injection equipment fluorometers samplers and related tools or equipment.
• Collect record and analyze field and laboratory data using established QA/QC processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Assist in troubleshooting flow and data discrepancies in coordination with WTD modeling engineers and flow monitoring data analysts.
• Develop traffic safety plans for DDT sites and coordinate with local agencies as needed
• Support inventory tracking equipment maintenance activities and coordination with equipment vendors regarding maintenance and operational issues related to DDT and other flow monitoring equipment.
• Prepare accurate field notes technical reports and documentation of testing activities and inspection results.
• Follow confined-space entry requirements PPE standards and traffic control procedures.
• Ensure safe handling of dyes and compliance during field operations.
• Create or update work requests and track and complete work orders in computerized maintenance management systems (Maximo) and provide information as needed
• Perform a variety of administrative duties such as development of work methods and upkeep of records; review field procedures and provide input into the update of the flow monitoring SOPs as needed
• During emergencies conduct or assist inspections to determine the extent of damage to King County owned facilities equipment and assets and prepare reports
• Perform other duties as assigned and participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by the team Lead and/or work group Supervisor.

Qualifications You Bring:

• A good understanding of basic hydraulics especially as related to measurement of flow and working knowledge and understanding of the methods and processes of flow monitoring including field procedures analyzing data for consistency trends patterns and outliers

• Demonstrated skill and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds cultures and lived experiences including co-workers and management and skill and ability in handling difficult conversations.

• Very good attention to detail and an ability to organize and handle multiple tasks meet established deadlines and maintain accurate records

• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be a clear communicator with demonstrated ability to work with a variety of staff at different levels.
  

• Valid Washington State Drivers License; demonstrated ability to drive a Ford Transit 350 High Roof Cargo Van (148 wheelbase extended body 4WD) with an enclosed 2 axle 6x12 trailer on city streets and highways

• Valid Washington State Drivers License

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

• Experience in performing field Dye-Dilution Testing (DDT) in wastewater systems to verify flow meter accuracy
• Experience operating and maintaining of dye injectors fluorometers samplers and other measurement technologies.
• Ability to interpret system behavior and flow/dye-movement anomalies
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and as-builts.
• Familiarity with portable flow monitoring sewer inspection or wastewater operations.
• Familiarity with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as Maximo.
• Experience developing supporting or updating SOP documentation.
• Demonstrated technical competence in all aspects of flow monitoring including site investigations meter installation field verification data collection detailed data analysis and reporting; ability to inspect and approve installation of approved flow meters and to recognize installation deficiencies and omissions and develop a corrective action listing
• Working knowledge and experience in the areas of sewer inspection testing monitoring and operations and maintenance of a water or wastewater collection system
• Working knowledge of and experience in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as Maximo
• Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems such as ArcGIS
• Training and certification in First Aid/CPR Confined Space Entry and Flagging/Work Zone Traffic Control

• Work Location:South Treatment Plant - 1200 Monster Road SW Renton WA 98057.
• Work Schedule:This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
