ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The City Planning and Development team sits within Councils Environment and Planning Directorate and focuses on services and advice to support city planning and development activities in the Cumberland LGA including development assessment city planning and advisory service.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Development Planner to join the this role you will assess and process statutory planning applications and provide technical comments and conditions. You will also prepare planning and development assessment reports where required assist with duty enquiries and coordinate legal/court matters arising from the development assessment process and/or compliance matters exercise relevant statutory powers duties responsibilities and delegations associated with the position.

Reporting to the Coordinator Fast Track Development Assessment you will work collaboratively within a team to review development applications and provide clear written and verbal advice in a timely manner to both internal stakeholders and members of the public.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Degree in Town Planning or equivalent with eligibility for membership to the Planning Institute of Australia
  • Development assessment experience in local government with demonstrated understanding of the relevant legislations
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • An understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 Local Government Act and other relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management and staff at all levels of the organisation and with external contacts
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Well-developed written and communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines on a daily basis with possession of excellent time management skills.

About this role:

  • Permanent full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
  • Located at Councils Auburn office with occasional travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 11 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1765.48 to $2030.30 per week plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role
  • Car allowance of $11608.48 per annum

What youll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Councils Health Monitoring Procedure as required.
