Job Summary

SUMMARY

BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGEmaintains a vacancy pool of qualified faculty interested in temporary teaching positions. Adjunct (part-time) faculty are responsible for preparing and providing instruction for students in the classroom. This part-time position may become available at any time and is typically filled on a quarterly basis.

BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE Denturist Instructors are responsible for providing hands-on competency-based training to students in a manner that prepares successful program graduates for a variety of entry-level or self-employment opportunities in the denturist profession.

Salary reflects July 1 2025 through June 30 2026 academic year



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES

  • Use effective competency-based teaching techniques instructional materials and appropriate media support to conduct classroom lecture course work and laboratory projects to prepare students with the practical skills essential for entry-level employment.
  • Classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
  • Provide individualized teaching
  • Clear communication with students colleagues & supervisor
  • Student Advising/Retention/Assessmentwhich includes mentoring encouraging counseling and guidance for students toward the completion of program requirements i.e. course assignments interpersonal relationships career goals and responsible work habits.
  • Facilitate a process for on-going student input within program and college
  • Coordination with other instructors support services staff and advisory committee members to ensure a cohesive learning environment dedicated to providing industry with qualified entry-level employees.
  • Clinic oversight- scheduling and safe patient care
  • Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation and ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
  • Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures.

Non-Essential/Other Functions

  • Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
  • Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention completion and progression.
  • Additional activities duties and responsibilities may be added with or without notice to meet college needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Technical skills (i.e. proficiency of all denturist skills)
  • HIPPA & Blood-borne Pathogens training
  • Interpersonal skills (i.e. effective team member/leader calm demeanor under pressure effective use of de-escalation techniques works well with diverse group of people)
  • Effective Customer service as demonstrated by professional caring interactions with students college personnel and the public.
  • Safety (i.e. hazardous waste equipment use clinic safety)

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with diverse internal and external audiences through college approved communication; must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels under stressful conditions.

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance on the job to best support business needs of the department and college.

  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws regulations and goals of the institution and community and technical college system; stay abreast of trends and regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance.

Conditions of Employment


  • Onceofferof employment is made a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will notprecludeemployment but will be contingent indeterminingthe employees suitability and competence to continue to perform in the position.

  • This position has beendesignatedas a bargaining unit position represented by Bates Technical College local union.

  • Following date of hiremustobtain Professional-Technical Education Certificate within 30 working days.

  • Maintain first aid/CPR certification

  • Valid Washington State Drivers License


Work Environment

  • Instruction takes place in an open classroom and lab area with occasional interruptions and noise.
  • Work will occur in lab classroom and clinic settings with regulated temperature.
  • There is potential for loud noise on occasion from some of the lab and/or clinic equipment and long periods of standing at patient chairside in the clinic.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have been actively employed in the industry a minimum of three (3) years; and
  • Must have working experience of all phases of work pertaining to the denturist industry; and
  • Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities; and
  • Must have current WA denturist license.

Allowable Substitution

If necessary alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate degree or higher.
  • Experience working with persons of disability and/or learning-disabled persons.
  • Prior teaching in vocational atmosphere.
